This is the home page for St James' participation in the CAFOD LiveSimply parish award scheme.
Inspired by the papal letter Populorum Progressio, LiveSimply challenges people of Christian faith to follow three Principles:
to live simply, that is take no more than we need;
to live sustainably with creation and minimise our impact on the planet;
and to live in solidarity with the poor.
It has been supported since 2006 by 80 Catholic organisations. Now, the LiveSimply award offers communities extra support, encouragement – and recognition for their successes in putting the three LiveSimply Principles into practice.
The St James' LiveSimply group was formed in October 2011 and has been following the process set down by CAFOD to register with the scheme. The first step was to make an assessment of what the parish was already doing and the result of this can be seen by clicking on the menu above. Several discussions were then held with as many parishioners and parish groups as possible in order to draw up an Action Plan for achieving the award. This was approved by CAFOD in August and LiveSimply launched at St James' on the weekend of 29/30th September 2012.
To register with the scheme we had to choose ONE substantial action for each Principle, and at least TWO supporting actions. The plan includes actions that put LiveSimply into practice in one or more of the three ways: by reflection and worship, by practical means and by reaching out to the wider community.
