The St James' Justice and Peace Group was founded in June 2007. It currently has about 12 active members and as of January 2011 meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month, excluding August and December, at 7.45pm in the Parish Office Meeting Room unless otherwise advised.
The group’s primary responsibility is to raise awareness of social issues and produce a Parish response to them. A simple description of what a typical Justice and Peace group does may be found here. Since its formation the group has achieved and been involved with the following:
• Arranged for the Parish to receive Fairtrade accreditation – all tea and coffee sold in the Social Centre is Fairtrade and we hope to expand the products offered soon. We also held our inaugural Traidcraft stall in March 2009 which was extremely well supported and this ran successfuly until the end of 2017.
• Organise regular collections of food, clothing and toiletries for the Manna Centre. The Centre is based in South London and provides food and basic facilities for homeless people.
• Deliver collections of food for the Bromley Borough Foodbanks.
• Support for CAFOD campaigns such as the Big IF and Climate Change.
• Set up a working party in November 2008 to study how our Church could reduce its impact on the environment.
New members are always welcome; if you want to help make a difference then please come along to a meeting or email us at jandp@stjamespettswood.org
This will forward email to the current Chairman of the group.
