President Mo’s Holiday Club
President Mo (or Moses) was the name of our ecumenical children’s holiday club, held at St James’ in the last week of August 2007 – and what a week it was! We had some 50 children of junior school age from all the Petts Wood churches, together with enthusiastic and talented leaders. The activities included singing, collage work, drama, painting, Egyptian biscuit making (!), cooking and dance – each day starting with a simple act of worship. It was a wonderful way to bring the churches together and we hope to repeat it next year. We ended up on the Sunday afternoon with a presentation in church of the week’s achievements. Many thanks to all the leaders and children for making it such a joyful week. A special mention is due to Gareth Davies, who is the youth worker at Christ Church United Reformed Church.
Welcome Mass for children baptized at St James’
This Mass – the first of its kind here – was held on Sunday 28th October 2007, and some 35 families attended with their children who had been baptized in the church since 2005. Fr Bryan and the congregation officially welcomed the children into the congregation and then each family came and received a certificate of welcome, and took their place in the sanctuary. The Mass was followed by a special buffet lunch in the Social Centre for all the families, and a great time was had by all! Special thanks are due to Andrew Keeshan and Sarah for organising the lunch.
Harvest Festival
This was celebrated at each Mass on the weekend of 13-14th October 2007, with many members of the congregation bringing up gifts of food and clothing at the offertory procession. The gifts were collected by the Manna Day Centre, which operates near London Bridge and does fantastic work, feeding and clothing the hundreds of vulnerable people who make their way to Melior Street. Many thanks to everyone who gave so generously to this good cause.
