Nearly 60 people attended this event to find out about Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’ – On Care for Our Common Home.  In Laudato Si' the Pope examines the many issues affecting our planet and the root causes of these problems.  His message is addressed to all faiths, peoples, and governments of the world and discusses many spiritual issues.  As well as parishioners of St James' there were guests from other local parishes who were given a warm welcome.  Participants heard a summary of the encyclical, as well as suggestions for adopting its recommendations, and there were two discussion periods when tables of up to six people engaged in conversation prompted by material provided.

The talks were given by guest speaker Susy Brouard of the CAFOD Theology team and the afternoon was chaired by Bruno Cotta.  The information was supported by facts about the environment produced by parishioner Di Betts.  These were beautifully presented by parishioner Joe Falzon and can be seen by clicking the appropriate links below.  One of our guests Sue Ferguson (parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary, Blackfen) has written a blog describing her experience of attending the event which is well worth reading.

The Justice & Peace Group was asked by Fr David to organise and run this event and he gave it great support as one of the educational opportunities now possible in the Community Centre.  The new audio-visual facilities were used for the first time.

St James' is particularly grateful to Susy who gave such interesting and informative presentations.  Participants' appreciation was shown in the £170 retiring collection for CAFOD.
