Regular events during term time
Mondays
Pondering the Word in church from 11.00am to 12noon; all are welcome to this quiet reflective way of looking at the following week's Gospel.
Tuesdays
Firm Believers is our Interchurch fun-fitness class, from 7.00-7.45 pm.  Suitable for all levels of fitness - go at your own pace.  Wear any comfortable clothing and shoes.  This is your chance to get fitter and slimmer. Relaxed atmosphere - come and give it a try for £5 a session (note change of fee). Stay on if you wish for tea, etc. and chat.  More details here.
Fridays
The Parent Toddler group meets from 1.30-3.00pm in the Community Centre.

Youth Retreat 30th September-2nd October 2016
The Parish Youth will be on retreat on the above dates at St Vincent’s Centre Whitstable.  All confirmed young adults were invited to attend this retreat.
 
Saturday 1st October
Gardening Help
Thank you so much to those who helped clear up the garden recently, and your efforts are greatly appreciated.  We would like to have one more session to complete the work starting at 10.00am.  Even if you can spare an hour to help, that would be welcomed.  
 
Sunday 2nd October
Blessing of Pets – St Francis of Assisi Feast Day
In anticipation of the Feast of St Francis of Assisi on Tuesday 4th October, we are planning to hold a blessing of pets in the Parish Garden at 3.00pm.  St Francis of Assisi (1181-1226) is the patron saint of ecologists, florists and poets.  Please bring along your pets to the garden and hopefully they will all be well behaved!
 
Friday 7th October
Eucharist Adoration
will take place on the 1st Friday of each month from 7.30-9.00pm.  This Devotion to the Eucharist outside of the Mass will be a time of silent prayer, quiet music and conclude with Benediction.  Everyone is welcome for all or part of this time of prayer before the Blessed Sacrament.  
 
Weekend 8-9th October
CAFOD Harvest Fast Day collection
Friday 7th October is CAFOD Harvest Fast Day.  Fast on Friday and give what you save to CAFOD at any Mass this weekend.  Please give what you can to help those in most need.  Thank you.  
 
This week we welcome through Holy Baptism: George Samuel Richard Clegg and his parents Anna and Richard Clegg; and Harrison Barney Bowes and his parents, Stephanie and Andrew Bowes.
 
Tuesday 11th October
The “Year of Mercy” at St James'
Group discussion at 8.00pm in the Community Centre on “The Patience of Mercy” Matthew 13: 24-30, 36-43.
 
Wednesday 12th October
Pastoral Care Team
The next meeting of the team will be held in the Parish Office at 7.00pm.  Those who are happy to help us in this new and important ministry in the parish are more than welcome to attend.
 
Saturday 15th October
The next meeting of Dad & Me will be held at the Community Centre from 10.00am– 1.30 pm.
 
Sunday 16th October
Friends of St James’ AGM
The Friends would like to welcome and encourage all members to attend the AGM in the Community Centre at 10.30am following the 9.15am Mass.  At this meeting we would like to review the year’s activities and elect a committee for the Friends of St James’ with nominations for different roles.
Parish Music Workshop
Come and sing at the music workshop to be held in the Community Centre from 2.00-4.00pm.  Ably led by Elizabeth Atkinson of St James' School, this workshop will be focussed on learning new hymns, refreshing old ones and most importantly making music together as a parish in a relaxed and social environment.  Do come along and, in the words of the Carpenters, 'Sing, Sing a Song!'.  Everyone welcome, children as well as adults.  Refreshments provided.
 
Monday 10th October for one week only
Lost Property will be displayed on a table in the Church Porch for one week only.  Please come and claim your lost items during this time, otherwise anything left will be sent to charity on 18th October.  Thank you.
 
Monday 17th October
Charity fundraiser – Cliff and Elvis
This will take place in the Community Centre from 7.30pm, with tickets at £10 and the bar open.  The intention is to raise funds for a hydro pool for Abigail, a neighbour on Crest View Drive who is disabled.  Her friends, family and parishioners have already raised funds to purchase a hydro pool and now need to have it installed.  This event is to pay for its installation.
 
Thursday 20th October
The next Parish Pastoral Council will take place and all parishioners are welcome to attend from 7.30–8.00pm.  Even if you are just curious to see what goes on, please do visit within that half-hour.  Slips of paper will be provided for those visiting to jot down anything they wish the PPC to know.
 
Thursday 27th October
The Requiem Mass for Margaret Jackson will be held at 10.30am.  There will be no Mass at 9.30am.
 
Wednesday 26th October
The Justice and Peace Group meets at 7.45pm in the Meeting Room of the Parish Office (281a Crescent Drive).  All parishioners are very welcome.
 
Saturday 29th October
Church garden
As well as tidying up the garden for winter, we are going to start planting the Remembrance Roses.  Do please come and help for an hour if you can at 10.00am.  Thank you in advance.
