Confessions: Saturday at 6.50pm after the 6.00pm Mass and Monday 10.00am after the 9.30am Mass, and also by prior appointment or at call.  Exposition: Monday 10.00-11.00am.

Today is Pentecost – the end of Easter season and the start of the church’s missionary outreach, in the power of God’s Spirit, symbolised by St Luke in Acts as wind and fire.  All of us have been given this same Spirit in the sacrament of confirmation.

Like Our Lady and the Apostles, we too have been empowered to share the Good News of Jesus, to be agents of his love in our lives, and to build up his Body, the church.

But do we?  Are our hearts ‘on fire’?  Are we really engaged with our faith, with God, through the church?  Are we really involved at any depth?  Do we really know our faith and each other (both absolutely essential if we are to be a missionary church).

We must each answer these questions for ourselves.  However I am convinced of two things: (1) that the mission of Christ is the responsibility of ALL of us, and (2) that there is a spiritually hungry world out there that God is calling us to feed.  Do you share this vision?

We welcome, through Holy Baptism (today) Luke David Christopher Smith (5 months), his parents Martin & Eleanor and godparent Sister Andrea Le Gueuel.

Mon (1st)                 Journey in Faith starts at 8.00pm at 281A Crescent Drive.

CWL Meeting 8.00pm

Tues (2nd)              Readers Evening at 8.00pm in the church.  ALL readers are asked to attend please.

Meeting for leaders and parents of young people going to Cudham on June 13/14th (Social Centre at 8.00pm.)

Wed (3rd)                Baptismal Preparation Evening at 8.00pm Presbytery.  For those parents who have been informed.

Fri (5th)                   Requiem Mass for Teddy Pickering 10.30am followed by committal at Beckenham crematorium.  Teddy was a faithful server at Mass here.  Our prayers and sympathy to Zoe and all the family (NO 9.30am Mass).

Sat (6th)                  NO Ministry of the Word and Holy Communion from today.  The ministers report that attendance is very low and so this will be discontinued.

Next Weekend        Petts Wood Residents Association Service (7th June)

4.00pm in the Memorial Hall.  Speaker: Lord Harris (founder of Harris HospisCare).  Please support!

CWL Beetle Drive on Saturday 20th June, start 7.00pm for 7.30pm

Sausage & Mash Supper.  Tickets £5 for adults and £1.50 for children will be on sale shortly.

Parish Library Simon Howell will be developing this during June.  It will be housed in the small room on the choir gallery and will be an invaluable resource for us.  We should be grateful for any religious/spiritual books! (Please take them up to the box in the library- thank you!).

First Holy Communion Mass will be on Saturday June 13th at 10.30am.  Please remember all the children (27 in all) at this important stage in their spiritual journey, and pray for them and their parents, that they will all be absolutely faithful to Jesus in the Eucharist each Sunday of their lives.

Bridget (Bridie) Mahon RIP  Bridie  (Teresa Saunders’ mother) died last Monday and we offer our prayers and sympathy to Teresa and to all the family.  Bridie was a faithful home communicant.  Her requiem will be tomorrow week (8th) at 10.30am (NO 9.30am Mass or exposition.)

A weekday evening Mass?  A few parishioners have suggested this, mainly for those of you who work during the day, but we must do the market research before we pilot it.  If you think you might (sometimes) come to an evening Mass, please sign the list in the porch.  It would probably be Tuesday at 7.15pm.  I will report back to you on this.

Lyra’s concert was a great success and they sang to an almost full church!  It was a wonderful evening and people are asking if/when they are coming again – yes, next May!  I am not sure if ‘Britain has got Talent’ – St.Petersburg certainly has!

Our new Eucharistic ministers – see them on the website!

Revd Roger Davis was inducted at Poverest Baptist yesterday (Saturday).  It was good to see St James’ people there and we welcome him and his wife Lesley to Petts Wood.

Good luck to those preparing for exams, at school or university.
