Welcome to Mass today and a warm welcome back to those of you have been on holiday.  Our parish routine begins again this week, together with the schools.  Congratulations to our young people on their exam results, and especially to those going to university – do keep in touch!

Today’s readings remind us that although our Catholic Faith is often expressed through externals, the true essence of that Faith is something internal.  Let us all try to internalise all the things that we experience at Mass – the prayers, the readings, the words of the liturgy, so that our faith becomes a deeper reality which will be reflected in how we live our lives.

We so often blame “others” for the problems of life.  Jesus reminds us that we must all search our own hearts because that is where sin comes from.  May the Lord strengthen each one of us as we continue to be his church in this place.

We welcome through Holy Baptism at 3.45pm, Sophia Gabriele Augustyn (9 weeks), her parents Eva & Adam and godparents Elzbieta & Arkadiusz.  And also at 4.45pm, Eva Valentine Chambers and Tane James Chambers (1 year), their parents Nicholas & Marsha, godparents Malcolm & Sophane and witnesses Isobel & Malcolm.

Many thanks to all who helped with Fr Arbo’s farewell.  Both  the Mass and the party were wonderful occasions and he was very moved.  Fr Arbo will be flying home to Tanzania this week for about 6 weeks to visit his family before beginning his ministry at Tolworth.

Thanks also to those who have kept things running in the parish during August.  Do remember that the Parish office is now run by Pam Lundy (Tues/Wed & Thurs 9.00am-1.00pm) while Clare is on maternity leave.
