Welcome to Mass today!

This morning (Sunday) we welcome Fr Dennis Paul to the 10.00am and 11.30am Masses.  Today is the last day of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity and I shall be preaching at Christ Church United Reformed Church at 10.30am.

This evening at 6.30pm we have the United Service at Southborough Lane Baptist Church (opposite St James’).  I do hope that as many of you as possible will come and join in this act of united worship with Christians from all the Petts Wood Churches.  You will receive a warm welcome and there will be refreshments after the service.

Also Today    Handel’s Messiah rehearsal (3.30-5.00pm).

Monday:         Journey in Faith from 8.00-9.30pm at 281A Crescent Drive.  This group is for anyone who would like to learn a little more about their faith (non-Catholics and Catholics).  This week the subject will be The Mass.  Relaxed, open, friendly environment and we really do stop at 9.30pm!

CWL New Year Party – 7.30pm in the Social Centre, all ladies of the Parish are invited (Madeleine Howell).

Tuesday:        Taizé meeting in the Social Centre – for anyone thinking of going this year (1st – 8th August) at 8.00pm.  Do come along to find out more about this unique place in France.  We are hoping to take some young families with us this year.

Wednesday:   Mass in St James’ School (8.50am) for KS1 Children.

Firm Believers fun-fitness class 7.00-7.45pm in the Social Centre.

Justice & Peace Environmental Working Party 8.00pm in the Social Centre.

Thursday:      Pastoral & Advisory Team Meeting at 8.00pm in the Presbytery.

I have asked 6 members of the congregation to assist and advise me on pastoral matters in the parish and also to help me clarify my role as your priest.  They are as follows:

·         Doreen Hairs – who for many years was Pastoral Assistant in a Catholic parish, and who is also very experienced in the work of spiritual direction.

·         Joanna Longhurst – a long standing member of our congregation with an interest in spirituality, and who is currently studying part-time for a degree in theology.

·         Mary Hutchinson – an experienced Catholic teacher who heads up our Children’s Liturgy Group, and who is about to complete her MA in Pastoral Liturgy at Heythrop College.

·         Chris Cahill – an experienced Catholic Head Teacher and also schools inspector for Catholic Ethos and Religious Education

·         Graham Price I am delighted to announce the news that the Archbishop (with my full support) has selected Graham, after a long period of discernment, for training for the permanent diaconateThis is wonderful news for the parish, and I know you will keep Graham, Caroline, Catherine and Victoria in your prayers.  He expects to start his training (part-time) at St John’s Seminary, Wonersh, next September.  Graham is our Group Scout Leader, and is a senior Metropolitan Police officer.

·         Andrew Dalgleish – a highly committed member of our congregation who is a Civil Servant often represents HM Government abroad.

Please pray for the team; I am very grateful to them.

Saturday        Senior Youth Group from 1.30-3.30pm outside activity at Bromley Ski Slope; meet at Church at 1.30pm.  Year 10’s only.

Junior Youth Group from 3.45-5.45pm.  Come and join in for exciting and interesting activities; open to all years 7, 8 and 9.

Mass Intentions as soon as possible please, and to avoid disappointment if you want a specific date – thank you!

“Oh God, direct your love that is within us, that our efforts in the name of your Son may bring mankind to unity and peace.” (Today’s opening prayer)

Let’s do it!
