Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament − Monday 10am-12 noon.
Welcome to Mass today Today’s Gospel reading is a long conversation that Jesus had with a Samaritan woman. In the course of this she is gently led by Jesus to recognise the truth about her life, and also to recognise Jesus as the Messiah or Christ (‘the anointed one’) and saviour of the world. Next Saturday (Mar 2nd) there will be the opportunity for everyone to meet Jesus in the sacrament of reconciliation (‘confession’) anytime between 10.00am and 5.00pm.
I do encourage you to come (even if you have not been for a long time) and to book a 5 minute (or 10 minute) slot – simply tick the time you would like to come to confession – and remember I am always happy to hear confessions ‘face to face’ rather than in the ‘box’ – the choice is yours. A wonderful preparation for Easter.
Last Saturday we welcomed baby Brandon Samuel Simons (6 weeks) into the fellowship of Christ’s Church through Holy Baptism and we offer our congratulations to parents Eileen and Russell and godparents Lynn and Daniel.
This afternoon – The rehearsal for the St John Passion will be held at Christ Church URC, Willett Way, Petts Wood from 3.00pm – 5.00pm.
Tickets for both performances (£8.00 - £5.00 concession) are available after Mass and during the week at the Rainbow Christian Bookshop in Queensway. These will be very special performances of Bach’s great setting of the Passion story, involving people from many churches. Our hope is that the music will draw us ever deeper into the meaning of Christ’s suffering and death. Tickets are going fast so early booking is advisable (see website).
Tomorrow (Mon) – CWL meeting – all ladies are most welcome (capitation fees are now due).
Fairtrade Fortnight (25th Feb – 9th Mar) after Mass this coming Wednesday Fairtrade coffee / tea and biscuits will be served. Please try and come (about 10am).
Recommencing tomorrow – Monday 25th Confirmation preparation at 6.45pm-7.45pm. Also Journey in Faith (meeting in the servers room -enter through hall) 8.0.pm-9.30.pm. Any non-Catholic 18 yrs plus is most welcome.
Passover Supper Celebration on Tuesday 11th March at 7.30 pm in the Social Centre there is an opportunity to be taken through the ritual ceremonies of the Jewish Passover meal. Mrs Beverley Taylor, Lay Preacher and former Chairman at the South London Liberal synagogue, is coming to lead us. This will be symbolic food (not a main meal). All are welcome, including families, as we discover more of the meaning of Our Lord’s Last Supper and the connections with the Eucharist.
All are welcome, but places are limited, so please reserve your place on the sign-up sheet (available in the church porch from TODAY. Flyers are available in the porch. Contacts: Chris and Doreen Hairs.
Thursday - Requiem Mass for Dan Carrigan here at 1.30pm followed by cremation at Eltham Crematorium at 3pm. Members of the congregation are most welcome.
Parish clean up!! We still need to do some more clearing up following the excellent session a few weeks ago. This will not be so onerous but we would appreciate help for a couple of hours on Saturday 8th March 10am – 1pm. Would you please sign the list in the porch and may I thank you in advance.
No serving practice or note learning practice this week. The St John Passion rehearsal NEXT SUNDAY 02 MARCH reverts back to St James’ at 3.30pm, not 3.00pm as advertised in the printed copy of Briefly.
Lent is going fast! Please buy ‘My Day by Day’ and ‘Lent Extra’ (both £1 each) which are tremendous resources for Lent. Also free calendars.
Choir for Holy Week and Easter practice on Tuesday week (4th March) at 8pm. We shall use the same music as last year. (Remember that Easter this year does not coincide with the school holidays so I do hope that the whole congregation will be at the services from Holy Thursday through to Easter Day- March20th-23rd).
Memorial Roses - about 20 are left (£7.50 each) so orders in soon please! (In Mass Offerings safe in porch please).
Next Sunday is mid Lent and Mothering Sunday. Every blessing to you for this coming week. Fr Bryan.
