Welcome to Mass Today

We are invited to serve Christ our King in the poor, the lonely, the displaced – in fact, to help any human being suffering or in need.  We have a golden opportunity to do this by contributing to the special second collection today – CAFOD’s appeal for £1,000,000 for the Congo crisis.  Please use Gift Aid envelope if you give in this way – and thank you.

Today:            Christmas Choir practice this afternoon at 3.30pm

Taizé Service at Christ Church, Willett Way at 7.30pm.

Monday:         Knowing God Better’ – 4th session: “Knowing God’s Help’ at 1.30pm or 8pm in the Social Centre.  All welcome.

CWL meeting at 7.45pm (in Pre School room).

Friday:            St James’ Pre School toys, clothes and equipment sale (10am – 12noon).

Saturday:       Business Association in Petts Wood.  Could you please help staff  the church stall outside the Rainbow Bookshop?  Any hour between 12noon and 5pm.  Please contact Fr Owen (frhiggs@tiscali.com).  I do hope we can muster good support for this..........

St.Michael and All Angels Locksbottom Parish Social (7.30pm) in our Social Centre.  St James’ people warmly invited.  They are raising funds for their Presbytery refurbishment.  Tickets are £5.

Next Sunday:  Pre-School cake sale and raffle after 10 and 11.30 Masses.

Guides Christmas Lunch – Sunday 14th December 2.00-4.00pm

The Guides and Leaders would like to invite all parishioners over 60 to the 14th Christmas Lunch organised by the group, followed by entertainment from the Brownies.  Please add your name to one of the lists in the porch.

Servers wanted!  Thanks to those who have returned forms – more servers needed however.  Training sessions on Saturday mornings starting 6th December from 10.00-10.45am (new and existing servers).

Furniture wanted!  A member of our congregation will soon be moving to sheltered accommodation.  We should be most grateful for the following: single bed (with good quality mattress), single free-standing wardrobe, bedside table, 2 small upright armchairs in good condition, small dining room table and 2 chairs.  Also small fridge freezer (not too old), electric kettle, toaster, microwave in good condition.  Please contact Fr Bryan who will arrange viewing and possible collection – and thank you.

Manna Centre – letter of thanks, for your generous gift of toiletries a fortnight ago, is on the notice board in the porch.  We shall have a clothing collection for them in late January 2009.

Christmas Masses

24th December at 6.00pm (vigil) and Midnight Mass (12 midnight, with carols from 11.15pm).

25th December at 10.00am and 11.30am.

Sacrament of Reconciliation

Saturday from 10.00-10.30am and 5.15-5.45pm.

Also on the four Sundays of Advent from 9.20am-9.50am, that is before the 10.00am Mass.  Fr Bryan and Fr Joseph will hear confessions at these times starting next Sunday 30th November.

Thrice Welcome Christmas – carols, poems, readings and Christmas music on Sunday 21st December at 6.30pm.

Getting Married?  Whether you are getting married at St James’ or elsewhere, please see me with your intended as soon as possible and at least 6 months before your date.  Catholics are required to be married in a Catholic ceremony unless a dispensation has been granted by the Archbishop.

Teresa and I are pleased to announce the birth last Monday (17th) of our second grandchild –  Rebecca Anna – born to Dominique and Tim!

Every blessing to all grandparents, and to all parents with babies, or who are expecting.  And to you all, the Lord’s blessing for this coming week.
