Confessions: Saturday at 6.50pm after the 6.00pm Mass and Monday 10.00am after the 9.30am Mass also by prior appointment or at call.  Exposition: Monday 10.00-11.00am.

Today is mid-Lent and ‘Mothering Sunday’.  We thank God today for our mothers, for Mary, Mother of Christ (the Annunciation is on Wednesday) and also for our holy mother, the Church.

The readings today are about looking/seeing.  Just as the Israelites were invited to look at the bronze serpent set up by Moses in the camp (to heal them from serpent bites), so we are invited to look at Jesus on his cross and be healed of all our sins.  But we have to ‘see’ with our spiritual eyes, not just our physical ones.

“Thus in the Cross, and Him who hung upon it, all things meet; all things subserve it, all things need it.  It is their centre and their interpretation.  For he was lifted upon it, that He might draw all men and all things unto Him.”  (Cardinal John Henry Newman, 1801-1890)

Today (Sun)         Handel’s Messiah rehearsal at 3.30pm

Stations of the Cross at 5.30pm.  This is a wonderful and moving devotion on our Lord’s suffering and death – do come if possible (ends about 6pm).  You can see the form of this devotion on the website.

Monday (23rd)           Faith, Hope and Love the 4th week of this Lent course at 1.30pm in the Social Centre (until 3/00pm – come on Mums!!).  Facilitator this week is the Rev’d Pauline Sparks of the United Reformed Church in Petts Wood.  All most welcome.

Choir Practice for Holy Week at 8.00pm.  Also next Monday (30th) and Tuesday (7th April).  These practices are for the music on Holy Thursday (9th April at 8.00pm), Good Friday (10th April at 3.00pm) and the Easter Vigil (Saturday 11th April at 8.00pm).  All singers are urged to attend, especially as time is short!

Tuesday (24th)     Baptism preparation evening (for parents who have been informed at 8.00pm in the Presbytery.)

Wednesday (25th) Ministry to the Sick Meeting  Presbytery 7.30pm.  All Eucharistic Ministers most welcome especially those with some time to offer during the day.

Youth Training Evening 8.15pm.  All leaders please attend if possible! (in the Social Centre)

Next Weekend      Handel’s Messiah  These performances are offered as an integral part of the church’s mission and are intended to move us to devotion to our Lord in his suffering and death.  The project has been a wonderful example of all the churches, working together, to serve the community. I do hope you will support it.  Tickets available from the repository after Sunday Mass or the Rainbow Bookshop in Petts Wood.

Junior & Senior Youth Group – Saturday 28th March

Outing to Gillingham Ice Rink.  Meet at the Social Centre at 2.00pm return at 5.30pm approximately.  Please confirm your place by contacting Suzy Paris.  Open to all young people in years 7-10.

Penitential Service

With individual confession here on Tuesday 31st March at 7.30pm, with a team of priests (at least 6) and our folk choir.  I do encourage everyone – families, children and young people to prepare carefully this week (examination of conscience).  Do not worry if you have not been for a long time – take one of the yellow sheets from the porch to help you.  Let’s have a full church, and make this a real united parish preparation for Easter.

Church Spring Clean – Saturday 4th April

10am-12noon – in preparation for Holy Week & Easter.  Please sign the list in the porch and please do not leave it to ‘other’ people!!  Many hands make light work....

KSC: Family Race Night & Quiz – Saturday 4th April – 7pm

Please support.  Tickets from Caroline Price, Frank Simon or Lora Benson.  More info on the parish website.

Urgent – help needed – please respond!!

There are many areas of church life which need your involvement!  Please see lists in porch for skills register (any area of building/maintenance/design, etc...), offertory collectors, readers, Eucharistic Ministers (nomination forms) and newcomers.  The parish is growing at a rate of knots and it is vital that everyone takes on a role, big or small, on the basis of our baptismal covenant with God.  Many thanks to those who have already signed!

New Rotas in carousel in porch.......also minutes of parish forum (10th March 2009).  Please take your copies...….

Thanks to those who came to the Gerry Coates concert last Saturday which raised Ł226 for CAFOD.  Thanks also to those who worked so hard with the funeral refreshments last Thursday; this was also greatly appreciated.
