A warm welcome to Mass today – and especially to any visitors who may be on holiday! Do you find it difficult to pray? Don’t worry – today’s reading from Paul’s letter to the Romans teaches us that it is the Spirit of God that actually prays in us, and who comes to our aid. All we have to do is be still and receptive to what God wishes to give us. This is praying and it is good if we can pray like this for a short while each day. Have a go!
Monday: No Journey in Faith this week
Wednesday: St James School Leavers Mass at 9.30am. This will be a very special Mass for our year 6 children as they move onto secondary schools, but it will also be the last Mass with Pauline Sammon as Head Teacher and there will be a presentation from the parish. All parishioners are welcome to this Mass.
Teddy Bear’s Picnic at 3.15pm in Presbytery garden (CWL) £2 adults, £1 children (teddy Bears free!!) Raffle (no unaccompanied children please)
Friday: Our Patron Saint’s Day – St James the Great – but we shall be celebrating next Sunday with our Bring & Share Picnic (personal barbecues welcome) at 12.30pm. Hopefully we can celebrate together as one community. Coffee after 10am will be extended and I do hope that Saturday Mass goers come along also.
Forthcoming events
CWL Meeting – 28th July 2008 at 8.00pm
Next Sunday’s Briefly will be the last until 31st August. All Mass intentions will be published and will be available online.
A notice from SPUC (Society for the Protection of Unborn Children)
The Government has now postponed until autumn the final stages of its Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill, including debate on pro-abortion amendments.
SPUC believes the government’s decision was influenced by the marvellous opposition of courageous church leaders, churchgoers and supporters to this profoundly unethical bill, for which SPUC is enormously grateful.
More help is now needed to campaign against the bill over the summer. Telephone SPUC on 020 7091 7091 or email political@spuc.org.uk
Youth Training Course
Could completed forms for this course please be returned to the Presbytery as soon as possible (four Tuesdays starting 16th September). This is a Deanery course which we are hosting here and it is filling up fast.
Do you play a musical instrument? My hunch is that we have a symphony orchestra out there in the congregation! Come on, folks, dust down that violin, polish that trumpet, tootle your flute etc... and take a form from the porch so that we can see who can play what. Please return to Presbytery.
There will be a rich, wide and varied programme for our parish beginning in September through to Christmas and this will be published in due course.
In particular the new Journey in Faith Group will begin on Monday 8th September at 8pm in the Presbytery and any non-Catholic (18 years plus) is most welcome and also Catholic spouses. It is encouraging so many people have expressed an interest. Remember the website – all parish news is regularly updated.
Every blessing – Fr Bryan
