Confessions: Saturday at 6:50pm after the 6pm Mass and Monday 10.00am after the 9.30am Mass also by prior appointment or at call.  Exposition: Monday 10.00-11.00am.  (Please note these new times)

The first disciples of Jesus were originally disciples of John the Baptist, and when things looked tough for John he passed them on to Jesus, describing him as ‘the Lamb of God’.  Jesus’ first question to them was “What do you want?”  They replied that they wanted to know where he lived and Jesus then invited them to stay with him for the day.

Jesus asks us “What do you want?”  We to need to ‘be with Jesus’ in this 21st century, post-modern world and the church gives us great resources.  Do make use of them.

Today:            is the first day of Week of Prayer for Christian Unity and we welcome (at 11:30am) Rev. Pauline Sparkes, Minister of Christ Church United Reformed Church as our preacher, together with the Christ Church Orchestra.  They are most welcome here and hopefully will return!

Handel’s Messiah rehearsal (3:30-5.00pm).  An excellent start last Sunday but we badly need more men (tenors & basses)!  I do encourage you to take part in this which is a spiritual project and not merely a musical one – a great preparation for Easter as the words of Holy Scripture are sung to Handel’s wonderful music.

Monday:         Journey in Faith – If you are a non-Catholic and would like to know a little more about the Catholic faith (with no obligation) then this is for you!  (281A Crescent Drive from 8.00-9:30pm).  Warm, open, relaxed and Catholics are also welcome.

Tuesday:        Baptism Preparation Evening, 8.00-9:30pm, 281A Crescent Drive – for parents who have been informed.

Wednesday:   Firm Believers, fun-fitness class for all.  Wednesdays 7.00-7:45pm in the Social Centre bring a towel or mat to lie on.  Cost £4.  All welcome!

Friday:            7.30pm – Travelling Trends Fashion Show at St James’ School (poster in porch).

Saturday:       Service of the Word and Holy Communion 9:30am.  Mass is not usually celebrated on Saturday mornings to enable me to have 24hours off duty in the parish.  In practice my ‘day off’ is after Mass on Friday to Saturday afternoon.  However, worship continues and is led by our faithful Eucharistic Ministers to whom I am extremely grateful.

It may surprise many of you to learn that millions of Catholics throughout the world get a priest (and therefore a Mass) about once every 3 months.  To have a resident priest offering Mass each day is a luxury.

More importantly, a Service of the Word and Holy Communion is a reminder to us all that the church cannot simply be equated with the priest, and this kind of service is a powerful statement of the role of lay people (the vast majority of members of the church).

I do hope you will sometimes come to this service on Saturdays at 9:30am.

Next Sunday: is last the day of Week of Prayer for Christian Unity and I shall be preaching at Christ Church United Reformed.  Fr Dennis Paul will celebrate at 10.00am and 11:30am.

In the evening at 6:30pm, we have a very special United Service at Southborough Lane Baptist Church and could I please ask that you give this your full support?  The disunity of the church is a grievous scandal and as Catholics we are called to do all we can to heal division.

Monday 26th January – CWL New Year Party at 7.30pm in the Social Centre.  All ladies of the parish are invited.  For more information please contact Madeline Howell

Tuesday 27th January – Taizé meeting in the Social Centre.  This is for anyone thinking of going this year (1st – 8th August) at 8.00pm.  There will be a Taizé video and plenty of information.  Young families also very welcome.  We must make a firm booking soon!

The response to our Manna Centre appeal for clothing last weekend was fantastic.  We estimated that the quantity donated would have been filled about 15 wheelie bins!  Thank you for your continued generosity.

Every blessing, Fr Bryan
