Exposition:  Monday 10.00-11.00am  (Please note these new times)

Welcome to Mass today.  The theme is God’s judgement.  Often we bring judgement on ourselves (the credit crunch?).  God’s judgement is an on-going process, at every moment of our lives, and depends on our response to Christ and his message here and now – not an event in some imaginary and remote future.  So we ask ourselves: is Christ at the centre of my life?  Am I at Mass every Sunday?

We welcome     through Holy Baptism Folasade Zuri Alessandra Shittu, her parents Jeanine & Ibukunolu and godparents, Chantelle, Sharon, Anjanette and Toba (Saturday 4.15pm).

Today:               Christmas Choir practice this afternoon at 3.30pmwe really need many more singers! (for 21st December and Midnight Mass).

Roly The Clown at Christ Church, Willett Way, 4pm – a rare opportunity to experience worship through clowning (Roly Bain is a clown and also an Anglican priest).  All are warmly welcome – especially children.

Monday:            ‘Knowing God Better’  This week: ‘Knowing God’s Forgiveness’.  Each week is a ‘stand-alone’ session and some 40 people have been coming (1.30pm or 8.00pm).  A video talk, refreshments, relaxed discussion and all are warmly welcome (Catholic or not).  Many more would derive great benefit from David Payne’s talks.

Saturday:          St James’ Youth Group is holding a quiz with prizes 3.45–5.45pm.  Open to years 7-10.  Vigil Mass choir practice at 2.45pm.

Next Sunday:             Taizé Service (by candlelight) at Christ Church, Willet Way at 7.30pm for all the Petts Wood Churches.  Do come and enjoy the unique and wonderful atmosphere, together with the renowned Taizé music.

Next Sunday we shall be having a special second collection for the Democratic Republic of Congo (click here for more details and a video presentation about the crisis).  250,000 people have been displaced.  If you Gift Aid your offerings, please use a spare envelope in your pack for this special collection – thank you.

Turning on the Lights Petts Wood Business Association are running stalls on Saturday 29th November (both sides of the railway 10.00am-3.00pm) and the churches have been invited to participate.  This is a wonderful opportunity for outreach let’s not blow it!  If you can spare an hour or two to help serve hot chocolate on the church stall, and also give out publicity about the churches, please contact Fr Owen Higgs (Vicar of St Francis’) urgently on 01689-829971 or frhiggs@tiscali.co.uk – Fr Owen will then get back to you.  Let’s have really good support for this from St James’.

Guides Christmas Lunch - Sunday 14th December 2-4pm

The Guides and Leaders would like to invite all parishioners over 60 to the 14th Christmas Lunch organised by the group, followed by entertainment from the Brownies.  Please add your name to one of the lists in the porch.  We're looking forward to it!  (3rd Petts Wood West Guides and Leaders.)

Servers wanted! Any child who has made his / her first communion is welcome to train as a server but regular commitment is essential.  Forms in porch – return to Presbytery please.

Holy Communion is getting much better – just a gentle reminder – would main body of church please come out first, on a row by row basis.  Then Lady Chapel row by row from front down centre of church on the left hand side and those under the choir on the right hand side.  Thanks.

Sacrament of Reconciliation (‘confession’.)

Please note new times on front of this ‘Briefly.’

In addition, during Advent, starting on Sunday 30th November, for four Sundays, Fr Joseph and I will be hearing confessions (9.20-9.50am) before the 10am MassRemember that Catholic teaching is that we should receive this sacrament at least once a year and I do urge and encourage everyone to make use of this wonderful means of God’s grace.

Publications  There are now lots of resources to help you in your faith, especially for the season of Advent.  See also the CTS stand in the porch (20p each). This is replenished with new titles frequently.  (The Da Vinci Code leaflet has sold out – interesting!).

Thank you so much for your generosity with toiletries for the Manna Centre last Sunday.  Also don’t forget to visit our website during the week!

Every blessing – Fr Bryan.
