Confessions heard Saturday 5.15pm-5.45pm and Monday 10.00am-10.20am (NB new times.)

Exposition:  Monday 10am-12 noon.

Today we celebrate Harvest you are invited to bring up your gifts for the Manna Centre at the offertory procession.  Thank you so much for your generosity, and thanks also to those who have decorated the sanctuary and the porch so beautifully.  We shall be reflecting today on our stewardship of God’s world and about how we can become more responsible stewards of creation, using rather than abusing this wonderful – and still mysterious – planet on which we live.

We Welcome through Holy Baptism Freddie David Bridle (11 months), his parents Martin & Anna and godparents Tom and Laura (Sat.3.30pm); and Olivia May Somerville (6 yrs), her parents Stephen and Aga and godparents Ewan and Agnieszka (Sat.4.15pm).

We welcome also our uniformed organisations (11.30am Parade Mass) and also those who are new (or fairly new) to the parish.  Coffee etc after Mass in the adjacent Social Centre – do come in for a chat.

Today:                       Second collection for the Needs of the Diocese.  The financial Secretary has written appealing for generous support for this fund, which is to be used to assist poorer parishes with necessary building projects.

Monday:                    Journey in Faith 8.00-9.30pm, 281A Crescent Drive.  An introduction to the basics of the Catholic Faith.  All most welcome, Catholics and non-Catholics.

Tuesday:                   Justice & Peace Group 8.00pm.  Some of the environmental issues mentioned at Mass today will be discussed).  This group is open to everyone – justice and peace are at the heart of the gospel – do get involved if you can.

Wednesday:              Funeral (Requiem) Mass (10.00am) for Terry Redmond (57years), followed by cremation at Beckenham.  Our deepest sympathy to Christine, and to sons Jamie and Dean.  Many of you knew Terry and will wish to attend.  (NB time 10.00am NOT 9.30am)

Saturday:                   Concert 7.30pm by Tim Wells (‘cello) and Dominique Wong-Min (piano’).  In aid of St James’ School PTA (Playground Appeal).  Retiring collection – cheese and wine during the interval.  This is a great chance to hear these highly accomplished musicians and to support our Parish School!

Next Sunday:            We officially become a Fairtrade Parish and Linnett Anderson will be speaking about Fairtrade at all Masses.  The coffee and tea in the Social Centre is now Fairtrade as well as various other items.

World Mission Sunday – 2nd collection for the Association for the Propagation of the Faith (APF).

‘Face to Face’ – Ann Widdecombe speaks with Rev. Paul Hulme at the Methodist Church at 6.30pm.  Most of you know that she is a convert to the Catholic Church and the session should be highly stimulating!  Do go if you can; there is a poster in the porch.

CWL Visit to St Jude’s – Monday 20th October 2008

CWL Ladies will be visiting St Jude’s Shrine, Faversham.  Train from Bromley South.  Please bring Packed Lunch.  Contact Win Taylor (via Parish Office).

Children’s Holiday Club - 28-31 October (mornings only years 3-6).

This is drawing nearer (half-term week) – please register your child for this exciting week and if possible contact Suzanne Horner to volunteer as a helper.  A great way to bring our communities together and to nurture our children’s faith in Jesus Christ and – judging by last year – great fun!

Marriage Convalidation

Catholics are required to marry in the presence of a Catholic priest (unless a special dispensation has been granted) for their marriage to be regarded as valid by the Catholic Church.  If you are a Catholic and you married in a non-Catholic ceremony it is likely that your marriage will need to be convalidated.  It is usually a straightforward process.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if this applies to you, or if you are unsure.

Health & Safety

Various jobs are being carried out in Church and Social Centre to comply with current Health & Safety regulations.  The Archbishop has commissioned Precision Safety Services to audit each parish site and to produce a plan of ongoing works.  Whilst these works are essential they will be of great benefit to all users of Church and hall.

Every blessing for this coming week.  Fr Bryan.
