Welcome to Mass Today

Amos (1st reading) was a shepherd who lived about 750BC, a true prophet who denounced the social injustices of his time.

Last Wednesday Pope Benedict published his encyclical Caritas in Veritate (Charity in Truth) It is a critique, in the light of the gospel, of globalisation, the environment and the economic crisis.  Like Amos, the Pope clearly points to the moral and spiritual basis of true human development.  Do try and read it (CTS).

In today’s Gospel Jesus sends out the apostles to preach, to exorcise demons and to heal the sick.  Our world and our society urgently need this exorcism from the demons of greed, lust and selfishness, and it needs healing from the wounds of cruelty and injustice.  This happens in a wonderful way when we celebrate the sacrament of reconciliation (‘confession’) and the sacrament of the sick (anointing with oil).

We shall celebrate both these sacraments soon as a parish community and you are encouraged  to receive God’s grace through them.  It is through lives that are forgiven and healed that God’s kingdom becomes a reality in the world.

This weekend at the 11.30am Mass

There will be a presentation of the names of those remembered in our rose garden, and also dedication of the memorial chairs in the Lady Chapel.  Also after each Mass CAFOD raffle (£1) with a First Prize £4,000 (see porch).

Mon (13th)         Parish Surgery 7.00-7.45pm.  I am available to any member of the parish for any reason at all – in repository (shop) at back of church.
