A warm welcome to Mass today especially to newcomers and visitors – do come in for coffee after Sunday morning Mass (in adjoining hall through car park).

Much is going on in the parish but we must ‘keep our eye on the ball’ and continually pray for the gift of wisdom (today’s first reading) as we plan and discern God’s will for us as the Pilgrim People of God.

Camels....rich men...needles...(today’s gospel)

Today you are invited to bring your harvest gifts up, together with the bread and wine, at the offertory procession.  These will be taken to the Manna Centre (near London Bridge) on Monday......thank you for your generosity.

Today also we have our second collection for the Needs of the Diocese.

And we welcome our uniformed organisations to the Parade Mass (11.30am).

Parish Forum

Almost 130 people turned up last Tuesday evening!  A fantastic turnout and thanks to everyone, and especially to the Scoping Team and their tremendous efforts over the last few months.

We shall keep you fully informed as to the next steps concerning the development of the social centre so that as far as possible we incorporate everyone’s view.

Thanks also to the many people who have volunteered their services to the Scoping Team – it is all greatly appreciated.

Tuesday at 8.00pm Justice and Peace Group when Yolande and Ken Wright (parishioners) will speak from personal experience on working for the International Development Agency in Cambodia, and Ken will also speak about climate change (he is a professional in this field).  Let’s have a really good turnout for Yolande and Ken before they return to Cambodia at the end of the month.

Wednesday – meeting for all welcomers in the Social Centre at 8.00pm.  We urgently need more welcomers (approximately a monthly duty before/after Mass).

ThursdayPastoral and Advisory Team meet in the presbytery at 7.45pm.  Please note who the team are by looking at the photos in the porch, and feel free to approach them with any matter concerning the parish.  Also look at the Mission and Planning Team (MaP) picture.

Next Sunday 18th October Archbishop Kevin will make his first visit to our parish.  He will celebrate 10.00am Mass and preach at 11.30am, and will then lunch in the presbytery. We look forward to his visit and I know he will be keen to greet as many of you as possible.  Could you please help with a tidy up of the church next Saturday morning (10.00am-12noon)?  Please sign the list in the porch.

Next Sunday evening at Christ Church URC Willett Way at 6.30pm, there will be a presentation by the Missionary Aviation Fellowship – a network of Christians working in the aviation industry. This is a Churches Together sponsored event and I do hope St James’ will be well represented.

Notices

Tuesday 20th October – Coach outing to Sussex visiting a replica of the Sistine Chapel ceiling.  There will be lunch at Midhurst, and a visit to the Weald and Downland open air museum.  Cost £20 and details from Barbara Bridle.

Cleaner Wanted for St James’ Social Centre/Pre-School.  A local person is required to clean for 1 hour, 3 mornings per week from 7.45-8.45am Mon, Wed and Fri.  £9 per hour.  Please call Joanne Gibson to apply or for more details.

Morrisons are issuing Let's Grow vouchers for schools again this year (one for every £10 you spend).  Please accept the vouchers at the till and put them in the box in the porch.  (Parents of pupils can send theirs direct to St James’ School.)

Christmas cards – now available in our repository after Mass (plus many other items).

Parish visiting – I am always very pleased to visit you at home for any reason (or none!).  If you would like a visit please fill in a visit card and pop it into the Mass Intentions box on the wall in the porch.  I will then ring you to arrange a visit.

We need 20 parish catechists!  Please consider enrolling for this parish based course.  There are details in the porch.  This is urgent and will be a wonderful opportunity for renewal and ongoing spiritual formation.

Every blessing for this coming week. Fr Bryan.
