Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament − Monday 10am-12 noon
Welcome to Mass today – and a special welcome to our uniformed organisations at the 11.30am Mass. Today we hear about Jesus being tempted (perhaps tested is a better word) before he begins his public ministry. Full of Gods Spirit he is able to withstand the power of evil but not without a struggle! We must do the same. May this Lent be a time of renewal and new life in our discipleship of Christ.
We Welcome Baby Paul Norman-Brown (8mths) into the family of Christ’s Church through Holy Baptism (Sat 4.30pm), and his parents Michelle and Paul, and godparents Kirsty and Wayne.
This afternoon at 3.00pm rehearsals continue for Bach’s St John Passion. Please note new start time for rehearsals. Tickets for these performances (March 15th & 16th) will be available from the Rainbow Christian Book Shop in Queensway from February 18th (£8.00, £5.00 concessions), or from any of the Petts Wood Churches.
The extra note-learning rehearsal is on Wednesday this week at 8.00pm.
Also this afternoon (and each Sunday during Lent but not March 16th) Stations of the Cross at 5.30pm.
This evening at the Methodist Church at 6.30pm Bishop George Stack (Area Bishop in Westminster Diocese) will be ‘Face to Face’ in conversation with the Rev. Paul Hulme (see poster in Porch.) I do hope that many of you will turn out this evening for this event to support one of our Catholic Bishops. The conversation will last for one hour and will be followed by refreshments.
Lenten Resources Lenten Extra magazine is available and excellent value at £1 also FREE Children’s Lenten calendars. Also please take your Catholic newspapers – all these things support us in our faith.
Monday at 6.45pm Confirmation session and 8pm Journey in Faith. Please not that both of these activities will NOT take place next Monday (18th) as we are breaking for half term. They will resume as usual on 25th.
Tuesday at 8.00pm Special Justice & Peace meeting in the Social Centre. My nephew Paul Elliston will be giving a presentation about Peru before he goes to an earthquake torn city near Lima as an aid worker, with his wife Rachel. He will be there between 2 and 4 years. I do hope the meeting will be well supported – there are other issues also to discuss, including the Parish of Bransholme in Hull which you so generously supported last summer when many people lost everything in the floods – we are hoping to renew our contact with the people there.
Many Thanks to everyone who turned up on Saturday morning and who worked so hard to help us tidy the site. As you know we have our Health & Safety inspection on March 26th.
Sacrament of Reconciliation (confession) I do encourage you to be reconciled with God and with other people through receiving this sacrament sometime in Lent. On Saturday March 1st confessions will be heard continuously from 10.00am – 5pm. The list is up in the porch for you to book a 5 minute slot (please feel free to bracket two slots). You may like to take the preparatory material to help you prepare your confession – many people have said that this has helped them.
Memorial Garden 24 people have already purchased a rose in memory of a loved one (£7.50) and there are still some left. Please put your money, your name and name of your loved one in an envelope in the Mass offerings safe in the porch.
Lost Property – There is much lost property to be cleared! This will be in the Social Centre after Masses today (in Porch after Saturday Mass) Please claim your things!
Advertisements please see advertisements for various Church posts on the main notice board which some of you might be interested in.
A Thought for the first Sunday in Lent
“In Lent, by abstaining from the things that we want – alcohol, chocolate or whatever – we are brought back to our deepest desires, for peace and justice, for the fullness of life, and ultimately for God. Lent is a time to reconnect with the fundamental hunger at the core of our being, for the one in whom we find all happiness. Lent is a time for us to grow in Christian maturity, seeking neither domination nor flight from responsibility, but confident God empowers all with strength, grace and freedom.” – (Timothy Radcliffe, O.P. in ‘Just One Year’-2007)
Every blessing to you.
Fr. Bryan
