Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament − Monday 10.00am-11.15am

A warm welcome to Mass today the fifth Sunday of Lent. The Gospel today is Jesus raising his friend Lazarus from the dead. We often think about resurrection as something that will happen to us after death, but the raising of Lazarus reminds us that eternal life is something offered to us here and now in this life. We are to live the life of Christ in the present moment and not be regretful about the past or fearful for the future. As St Paul says in today’s second reading ‘If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you...then he will give life to your own mortal bodies...’ Our faithful reception of Holy Communion is the sign and pledge of this.

Penitential Service – this afternoon (Sun.) at 4.00pm will be at St Mary & St Pauls Cray  and not at Holy Innocents as previously published. You are most welcome to make your confession at this service – there will be a choice of Priests.

Also this afternoon

·         St John Passion choir (3.00pm – 5.00pm) there are a few tickets left for both performances so hurry and make sure you do not miss out! Please take a handbill as you leave Mass  - we have been very lucky in getting Ben Thapa of G4 to sing the part of the Evangelist. A CD will be available in due course.

·         Stations of the Cross at 5.30pm (lasting about 30 mins.)

Monday

·         Mass as usual at 9.30am followed by Exposition and then mid-day prayer and Benediction at 11.15am

·         Funeral Mass at 12 Noon for Francesco Federico (Homemead Road) followed by burial at Magpie Hall Lane. Our sympathy and prayers to his wife Concetta and daughter Josephine and son Angelo and to the whole family.

·         Confirmation preparation at 6.45pm. Would parents please note that we are having an ‘away day’ with the young people on Saturday 26th April (place and details yet to be decided), and also that the official confirmation reception will take place after the Mass with the Archbishop in the Social Centre on 15th May.

Tuesday

·         Passover Supper at 7.30pm – led by Beverley Taylor of the South London Liberal Synagogue. It will not be a main meal but a symbolic one and is fully booked! It will last about 90 minutes and there will be a retiring collection. Our thanks to Doreen and Chris Hairs who have arranged this event.

Wednesday

·         Fr. Bryan speaking to the AGM of the Methodist Church on ‘How I see the future of church unity in Petts Wood’

Thursday

·         Servers Practice for Holy Week and Easter 7.00pm – 7.50pm.

Would servers and parents please sign list in porch to indicate availability 20-23rd March – Thank you

·         Choir practice for Holy Week and Easter at 8.00pm – 9.15pm. All singers please as time is short!

Rotas If you are on a rota (e.g. reader, Minister etc...) and your name has been left off please let us know! You have not been forgotten but the rotas are complicated and one or two people recently have been left off. Please ring or email Clare (Tues, Wed or Thurs 9.30-12.30pm) who will deal with your query. A big thank you to everyone on all rotas for your work and commitment.

Thank you also to all the ladies who did a magnificent job with the refreshments after Andy’s funeral last Monday. The family thank them and everyone who contributed in any way to the day and many visitors commented on the warm welcome they received.

Thanks to everyone who helped yesterday (Sat) with the Parish clean-up! We are now almost ready for our inspection and for Holy Week and Easter.

Holy Week begins next Sunday (Palm) please assemble in the Social Centre (10am and 11.30am Masses) for the blessing of the palms and procession into church.

The Easter Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday & Easter Eve) are the most important days in the Christian year and should be seen as a whole. I do hope that the church will be full for these celebrations which recall the great events of our redemption. The times are as usual and are displayed in the porch.

Every blessing to you for this fifth week of Lent. Fr. Bryan
