Last Sunday Mass Attendance – 670

The next edition of Briefly will be Sunday 22nd February.  I am away for a few days in Merville, Northern France, with the Bishops and Clergy for a Diocesan Conference, and taking a couple of days off the following week for my post-Christmas break.  Fr Des Doherty will say Mass while I am away and I know you will give him a warm welcome.

Please find Mass intentions for the next few weeks on the back page of this edition of Briefly and refer to lists in porch for other duties.  Thank you.

Welcome to Mass

Sunday 8th February (Fifth Sunday) – Today’s first reading (from Job) can sound rather depressing.  I suspect we all feel like this from time to time, but in the Gospel reading Jesus continues his healing ministry and gives us new courage.

Sunday 15th February (Sixth Sunday) – Both the first reading and the Gospel are about leprosy.  In the ancient world leprosy was seen as a curse from God and Lepers had to live in colonies apart from the community.  Jesus makes himself an outcast and heals the leper, who then proclaims his healing to all and sundry.  This is a parable of ourselves – we need the healing touch of Jesus in our lives and must then proclaim him to others.

We welcome through Holy Baptism

Servers  Training continues each Saturday morning at 10.30am.  It is great to see so many new servers and any child who has made his/her First Communion is welcome to train as a server (contact Nic Babb).

Please pray for us clergy in Merville next week, as we shall for you.  The theme is about our ministry as priests in the service of Christ and his people and I shall give you a resumé on my return!

Every blessing – Fr Bryan
