Confessions: Saturday at 6.50pm (AFTER 6.00pm Mass) and on Mondays at 10.00am (after 9.30am Mass), or by prior arrangementPlease note these new times.

Exposition: 10.00-11.00am on Mondays.

Today is the solemnity of the Epiphany (transf. from the 6th).  Christ came into the world for all people, irrespective of race, class, gender or anything else. It took the early Christians a long time to realize this – they originally thought that Jesus, as the Jewish Messiah, had only come for the Jews. So we do not believe in just another ‘religion’ – we believe that, in Christ, the truth about humanity, and God, is revealed finally and uniquely, for the whole human race – quite a claim!

Like the Wise Men we are invited to offer the gift of our lives in the service of Christ in this new year of grace, 2009.  (Could we make a start by helping with the Christmas decorations at 12.30pm TODAY?  Thank you.)

St James’ School join us for Mass this Wednesday at 9.30am.

Come and sing Handel’s Messiah!  Everyone is warmly invited to come and sing this spiritually invigorating music … including the famous Hallelujah chorus!  We start next Sunday 11th, here in church (3.30-5.00pm).  Many of you were thrilled by the St John Passion last year … so come along and sing this year!  This is a great way to prepare for Lent and Easter – and also great fun!  Performances will be on March 28th and 29th in aid of Harris Hospice Care.

Do you want to get fitter and trimmer for Spring?  How about joining Firm Believers, our friendly inter-church fun-fitness class.  Suitable for all levels of fitness and ability.  Wednesdays 7.00-7:45pm in the Social Centre Coffee, etc., afterwards for those who wish.  Please wear comfortable shoes and clothing, and bring a towel or mat to lie on.  Cost £4.  No need to book – come and give it a try.  All welcome.

Celebrating the Year of St Paul – excellent courses are offered by our Education Centre at Tooting Bec – I know it’s a bit of a trek but well worth it.  See poster in porch for Paul: the story and story teller (22 and 29 Jan.) and Imaging the Word (5 and 12 Feb.)  Do take advantage of our diocesan resources – all part of our on-going formation as members of the Catholic Church.

Confessions please note new times on the front of this edition – and remember that I am also happy to hear confessions by prior appointment – please do not hesitate to ask.

Saturday 9.30am Mass  Fr Joseph has (unexpectedly) been recalled to duties in Bromley parish and so from next Saturday 10th January, the 9.30am service will be a Service of Word and Holy Communion.  I do encourage as many of you as possible to come and hear God’s Word and receive Holy Communion, especially if you would normally come to Mass on Saturday morning.  We thank Fr Joseph for his ministry here and no doubt we shall see him from time to time.

Message from SPUC  The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children will be holding its annual White Flower Appeal next weekend.  In common with the Catholic Church, SPUC defends and upholds the sanctity of human life from conception until natural death.  The Society’s work covers a wide spectrum of concerns.  It seeks to protect unborn children from abortion; embryo research and unethical fertility techniques, and in recent years it has helped fight euthanasia too.  SPUC also provides trained speakers for schools and offers a number of pro-life support services, including those for teachers, parents and medical professionals.  Please give generously to this very worthy cause.  There will be a retiring collection next Sunday.

Thank you again for your generosity over Christmas and every blessing for 2009.
