“It is not good that a person should be alone.” (From today’s first reading).  Very true.  Being in relationship with others (and the planet) is an essential mark of our humanity.  Being in relationship with God is the overarching purpose of our existence.  The church is first a community  and should reflect the relationship within God –Father, Son, and Spirit.

Jesus calls us to love one another and for this to happen we need to know each other, talk together and be with each other within the “fellowship of the Holy Spirit” (the church).  Today’s homily will propose a vision for our parish which I hope will stimulate our thinking and planning – in short, the mission which Christ has entrusted to each of us in this community.

Congratulations to Loretta and Ulisse Floris who were commissioned as Eucharistic Ministers by Bishop Paul Hendricks at Aylesford yesterday.  We welcome them to our parish team and they will begin their ministry in due course.

Today (Sunday) the second collection is for CAFOD Family Fast Day.

From today we restore the chalice and the sign of peace but please continue to receive the host in the hand – thank you.  Ministers: please take revised rotas from porch.

Monday Journey in Faith from 7.30pm to 9.00pm at 281A Crescent Drive.  For non-Catholics who would like to learn about the Faith.  Simply turn up!  Coffee will be waiting for you and we are kicking off with a DVD extract from ‘Jesus of Nazareth.’  Relaxed, warm, informal, no obligation.

Tuesday – The Finance Committee 10.15am in 281A.

Firm Believers 7.30-7.45pm (now permanently on Tuesdays) fun and fitness – all welcome (£4).  Flyer in porch.

Parish Forum at 8.00pm in Social Centre.  A cast of hundreds is expected!  Please come to what will be an excellent presentation of your response to the social centre survey.  The way forward will be set out and there will ample opportunity for questions and discussion.  Please take your summary of the report today at the end of Mass and read before Tuesday – full report on our website!

Friday – St Thérèse’s relics at Aylesford.  There is a coach going from the parish (contact Sheila Simon).

Saturday Youth Group from 3.45-5.45pm with fun, games, and talk by local vet.  ALL in years 7-11 warmly welcome.  Parents: please encourage the young people.

Cleaner Wanted for St James’ Social Centre/Pre-School.  A local person is required to clean for 1 hour, 3 mornings per week from 7.45-8.45am Mon, Wed and Fri.  £9 per hour.  Please call Joanne Gibson to apply or for more details.

Morrisons are issuing Let's Grow vouchers for schools again this year (one for every £10 you spend).  Please accept the vouchers at the till and put them in the box in the porch.  (Parents of pupils can send theirs direct to St James’ School.)

Christmas cards – now available in our repository after Mass (plus many other items).

Tuesday 13th October Justice and Peace Group at which Yolande and Ken Wright  (parishioners) will lead a session on working for the International Development Agency in Cambodia, and Ken will also speak about climate change (he is a professional in this field).  Let’s have a really good attendance for Yolande and Ken before they return to Cambodia at the end of the month.

On Sunday 18th October Archbishop Kevin will make his first visit to our parish.  He will celebrate 10.00am Mass and preach at 11.30am, and will then lunch in the presbytery.  We look forward to his visit and I know he will be keen to greet as many of you as possible.

Hoping to see as many of you as possible on Tuesday at 8.00pm.

Every blessing, Fr Bryan.
