MONDAY 3rd MARCH – NO EXPOSITION TODAY

Welcome to Mass today and a special welcome to all mothers on this Mothering Sunday! And welcome also to the many new young families who are settling into our church community. You are a wonderful gift of God to us and we hope you will soon feel a valued part of our parish. Do come in to the adjoining hall for a coffee and chat after Mass.

‘There are none so blind as those who cannot see.’ Today’s Gospel is about Jesus healing a blind man. If we are honest we must admit that we are often blind to the truth about ourselves, other people – and God. Let us all pray today for the gift of inner sight so that we may live our lives in true humility and come to ‘see’ the Risen Christ, present in our midst.

This week

Monday

·         Requiem Mass for Andy D’Souza at 11.00am (NO  Morning Prayer or Mass at 9.30am, or exposition today.) This will be a very well attended Mass because Andy was known to so many people. We offer our sympathy and prayers to Mita, and to their children Natasha and Aaron.

·         Confirmation Preparation (6.45pm) Please pray for our young people (almost 50 of them) who are preparing thoroughly and imaginatively for their confirmation. They are a credit to their families and to our Parish.

·         Journey in Faith (8pm) in the servers room. It was wonderful to welcome two new members to this group last Monday. Any non-catholic 18 years plus is warmly welcome to join in this exploration into the Catholic faith.

Tuesday

·         St James School is having a ‘Prayer Day’ in which I shall be involved and it sounds like it will be an exciting and creative day. To encourage our children to pray is perhaps one of the greatest things we can give them.

·         8.00pm in Church - Choir for Holy Week and Easter. Could I ask that as many singers as possible turn up for this rehearsal. We shall use the same music as last year as many of us have expended our energies on the St John Passion! (We shall end no later than 9.15pm).

Wednesday (next page)

·         7pm servers practice (in church) until 7.50pm. Would parents and servers please sign list in porch to indicate availability for the main Holy Week services – thank you.

·         8.00pm Adult Confirmation Group (in presbytery 218A Crescent Drive) if you are a baptised Catholic (16 years plus) but have never been confirmed you are most welcome to join this group. So far four parishioners have asked for confirmation but others are most welcome. The confirmation Mass is here at St James on Thursday 15th May at 7.30pm with the Archbishop. Please contact Fr. Bryan if you have any queries about this.

Sacrament of Reconciliation. It was so encouraging that so many of you made your confession yesterday (Sat) – a wonderful preparation for Easter. Do take advantage of this means of God’s grace if you have not already done so – and remember that I am always happy to hear confessions after Mass on weekdays – do not hesitate to ask.

Memorial Garden Your response has been really good and unfortunately there are no more roses for purchase – at least for the time being. A full list is on the porch notice board. Would donors please check that all names are correct – we hope eventually to have this list in permanent form in the area of the garden.

Bach’s St John Passion The rehearsal this afternoon (Sun) is at 3.30pm.  You may be interested to know that the part of the evangelist will be sung by Ben Thapa of the group G4. Please get your tickets from the Rainbow Christian Bookshop in Queensway or in the Social Centre after Mass.  The music could not be more suitable for the beginning of Holy Week – the story of our Lord’s suffering and death set to the most sublime music by Bach.

Passover Supper This is now fully booked and approx. 70 people will be attending (Tuesday 11th March at 7.30pm in the Social Centre). We look forward to learning more about the origin of our Christian Eucharist, and also about how our Jewish brothers & sisters celebrate this festival each year.

Penitential Service at St Joseph’s in St Mary Cray This will be next Sunday (March 9th) at 4.00pm and you are warmly invited to attend. (Remember that this will be individual spoken confessions, not written.)

Parish Clean Up!  Next Saturday  (8th) from 10am – 1pm – please help if poss! (list in porch.)  Happy Mothering Sunday! Fr.Bryan.
