Confessions: Saturday at 6.50pm after the 6pm Mass and Monday 10.00am after the 9.30am Mass also by prior appointment or at call.  Exposition: Monday 10.00-11.00am.  (Please note these new times)

Welcome to Mass today.

Lent gives us all the chance to reflect on our lives in the light of the gospel.  Do take advantage of what is on offer.  The Lent Extra magazines (£1) are particularly good.  I hope those of you who have signed on for the Lent course will enjoy it (do feel free to turn up even if you have not signed).  Above all, do consider making your confession this Lent (times on front cover).

May Lent be a time of spiritual growth for us all, personally and as a parish community as we seek to follow Christ ever more closely, and enter into the mystery of his dying and rising at Easter (the ‘paschal mystery’).

We welcome (Sat) through Holy Baptism, Thomas Henry Smith (5 mths), his parents Malgorzata and Christopher, and godparents Tomasz, Anna and Ewa; and also Jasmine Burchell (17 mths), her parents Elizabeth and Paul, and godparents Rosalda and Ryan.

We welcome also Monica Conmee from CAFOD, who will speaking at each Mass this weekend.  Next Friday (Mar 6th) is CAFOD Lenten Family Fast Day with the 2nd collection next Sunday (please take your envelope today).  Thank you so much for your generosity last Sunday to the Cabrini Children’s Society (see front cover).

Each Sunday:            Handel’s Messiah rehearsal 3.30-5.00pm (and every Sunday until the end of March.  (Today – 1st March rehearsal will be at St Francis Church, Willett Way).  Performances: Sat 28th and Sun 29th March and will be in aid of Harris Hospice Care with St Christopher’s.

Mon 2nd Mar:             Faith, Hope and Love- Lent Course 2009 – Social Centre at 1.30-3.00pm (1st of 5 sessions).  The facilitator will be Fr Bryan Wells.

Wed 4th Mar:              Mass in School at 8.50am for years 3 and 4.

Thurs 5th Mar:           Pastoral and Advisory Team (PAT) – Presbytery at 8.00pm.

Parish Forum Tuesday 10th March at 8.00pm in the Social Centre – to receive the accounts for 2008 and to reflect together on where we are as a parish.  I do realize that some of you will wish to attend the Lent group at Christ Church.  This clash was unavoidable!

Deanery Youth Leaders Follow-up Meeting  Following the highly successful course held here for the Deanery last year, there will be a special follow-up evening here on Wednesday 25th March at 8.15pm with Jonny Toryusen and Káren North from the Diocesan Youth Service.  For all our leaders (even if you did not attend the original course).  Please book this date.

Servers  Training continues each Saturday morning at 10.30am.  It is great to see so many new servers and any child who has made his/her First Communion is welcome to train as a server (contact Nick Babb).

Lenten materials  Do look at and buy the various publications.  There are all kinds of things to peruse/take/buy/borrow, including the CTS pamphlets (20p each).

Also, do take the A4 sheets on the Basics of Catholic Living (one per week during Lent- past weeks in carousel).  Children in the Liturgy Group will be given a special Lenten calendar today – parents, do look at this each day with your children.

Parish Welcoming Booklet

We shall soon be publishing an attractive and comprehensive booklet detailing what goes on at St James, and who the contact people are.  Please contact Chris Hairs if you run or are responsible for a parish activity (if you have not already done so) by March 13th please – thank you.

Presentation of Money Gifts

We now bring up our gifts of money, together with the bread and wine, showing that we offer the whole of our lives to God -not just the ‘religious’  parts!

Stop Press!

All readers – morning of reflection at St Joseph’s, Bromley next Sat. Morning.  I do hope as many of you as possible will go – apologies for short notice.

‘Father, through our observance of Lent, help us to understand the meaning of your Son’s death and resurrection, and teach us to reflect it in our lives.............’ (today’s opening prayer).

Fr Bryan.
