What
do we mean by Justice & Peace? |
|
|
• |
being aware of the reality of
injustice, suffering and violence in our world |
• |
exploring the causes of
injustice and taking small actions to alleviate them |
• |
increasing awareness among
others about these issues |
• |
considering this in the light of
our faith |
• |
working for justice on our
doorsteps and overseas |
• |
living out our faith and
promoting action for justice and peace |
• |
how we live - personal witness |
• |
praying for the situations of
injustice that they may be changed |
• |
raising money to help those
working to change unjust structures |
|
How do we do this? |
|
• |
help the parish to support CAFOD |
• |
organise collections for the
Bromley Borough Foodbank |
• |
organise collections for the
Manna Centre |
• |
initiated the LiveSimply project
for which St James' gained its award in 2014 |
• |
audit parish energy consumption
and other environmental issues |
|
e.g. we persuaded Bromley
Council to install our bike racks (for free) |
• |
used to run the Traidcraft stall
after various weekend Masses |
• |
engage with issues of conscience
important to Christians |
|
e.g. free Asia Bibi, climate
change, human trafficking, |
|
enabled
parishioners to send messages to Victims of Injustice |
• |
initiate the parish overseas
project, selecting a new one every year or so |
• |
meet on the 4th Wednesday of the
month (except August & December) |
• |
new members are always welcome
to attend our meetings (or help occasionally if that suits them better) |
