What do we mean by Justice & Peace?
being aware of the reality of injustice, suffering and violence in our world
exploring the causes of injustice and taking small actions to alleviate them
increasing awareness among others about these issues
considering this in the light of our faith
working for justice on our doorsteps and overseas
living out our faith and promoting action for justice and peace
how we live - personal witness
praying for the situations of injustice that they may be changed
raising money to help those working to change unjust structures
How do we do this?
help the parish to support CAFOD
organise collections for the Bromley Borough Foodbank
organise collections for the Manna Centre
initiated the LiveSimply project for which St James' gained its award in 2014
audit parish energy consumption and other environmental issues
e.g. we persuaded Bromley Council to install our bike racks (for free)
used to run the Traidcraft stall after various weekend Masses
engage with issues of conscience important to Christians
e.g. free Asia Bibi, climate change, human trafficking,
enabled parishioners to send messages to Victims of Injustice
initiate the parish overseas project, selecting a new one every year or so
meet on the 4th Wednesday of the month (except August & December)
new members are always welcome to attend our meetings (or help occasionally if that suits them better)
The Catholic Church's full title for groups such as ours is:
