Molly’s introduction

We would like to welcome you today and thank you for joining our LiveSimply Lenten Lunch.Be Happy

As we begin Holy Week and focus on the Easter message we remember those who are less fortunate than ourselves.  Food is essential for life.  Yet around 870 million people worldwide go hungry, even though we produce enough food for everyone.  That means in our world, one person in eight is hungry, not for just one afternoon or one day, but every day.

Mohammed, a thirteen year old boy from Sierra Leone knows  only too well how it feels to be hungry – “At times, we skipped lunch and we’d go without eating.  When I was hungry I felt bad, I didn’t feel satisfied.  Missing lunch made me feel sick and tired.  Sometimes I couldn’t concentrate.”

Living in a part of the world where food is plentiful, albeit expensive, it is difficult to imagine how it must feel to be that one in eight.  Maybe later on today when your tummy to starts to rumble, you might give a thought to Mohammed and the many others like him.
