Today, as we acknowledge God’s call to help the hungry and to support those ravaged by natural disaster, we ask for help and guidance as we bring our prayers to God.

Heavenly Father, we give thanks for being able to help the people of Kainmari over the last year.  We pray that their village will be blessed in future with good harvests and safety from the cyclones that are so damaging in that part of Bangladesh.

 

Lord in Your mercy, …

We pray for the people of the Philippines caught up in the disastrous effects of Typhoon Haiyan.  We mourn for the thousands who have died and we pray that relief will come soon to those who are suffering dreadful hardship in the wake of the storm.

The gifts of the earth are distributed unevenly, and we long to lift up those in need.  We ask the Lord to soften the hearts of those who place personal or national gain above the good of the whole.  We pray that all governments will act with justice, so that the hungry are invited to the bountiful table of food that the rest of us enjoy.

By becoming man, Jesus raised all creation to a new dignity; may we grow in reverence for God’s bountiful creation and acknowledge our responsibility for its preservation.
