Agreed actions shown in bold red type.

1.       The meeting started with the prayer associated with Archbishop Oscar Romero.

Apologies for absence: Geraldine Thompson and Peter Lowe.

2.       Minutes of last meeting

All outstanding matters had been dealt with or would be discussed as part of the agenda.

3.       Chairperson

MM explained that she was happy to continue as chairperson for another year but also could stand down if the membership wished her to do so.  IS suggested that anyone should feel confident to fill the post and it could be operated on a rotation basis.  MM noted that the post was not tied to membership of the Parish Pastoral Council.  In conclusion the meeting asked MM to serve another year.  RW would ensure that the June/July meeting agendas would include an item for her successor in September 2018.

4.       Autumn Festival

MM outlined the festival planning:

Pam Lundy was leading the organising and had done a great job involving new parishioners with wide diversity of interests and nationalities.

There would be national stalls (ML with an Argentinian stall) and an international kitchen

       BBQ outside

Children’s activities in the small hall

Traidcraft, CWL, Crafts, sweets, bottle tombola, etc.

NB would sell goods from East Africa

setting up would start on Friday evening

DB/GT setting up Saturday morning, as would NB

Help needed from J&P to move Traidcraft stall to the church at 4.00pm

[Rotas covering Festival, Traidcraft and CAFOD Fast Day tasks were agreed and published by RW the day following meeting.]

5.       CAFOD

Harvest Fast Day was scheduled for Friday 06 October; a rota was agreed for speakers and envelope distributors for the weekends before and after Fast Day.  IS suggested that Mass goers who had forgotten to bring donations should be told that this could be done at any time

6.       Manna Centre

NB had been in discussion with the Centre and the following items would be requested in Briefly for the collection on 14-15 October:

Towels

Sleeping bags

Blankets

Men’s toiletries including disposable razors

Warm men’s clothing including hats, socks and gloves

MM would be at the church to meet David from the Manna Centre at about 10am on Monday 17 October.  RW had promised to inform St Theresa’s at Biggin Hill about the items required in case they decided to collect as well.

7.       Foodbank

RW agreed to send NB a chart of the food weights collected so it could be displayed at the Festival.

The delivery rota for the next few months was agreed as follows:

October                RW

November             MM

December             RW

January                 DB

IS offered to help with deliveries and would be included in the next rota.  Hopefully the Foodbank would be installed in its new permanent location by then.

8.       Parish Project

OC outlined the objectives of the support from St James’ which are primarily for technical training and any surplus funds to go towards Fr Joe’s music teaching scheme.

The project would be launched on the weekend of 28-29 October.  There would be a display in church with flags, flowers, and other decorations set up by the Filipino community.  MM had already been in discussion with one of them and would discuss the launch with them again.

The speaking rota was provisionally agreed as follows for the launch weekend:

6.00pm                 MM

9.15am                  RW

11.00am                OC

The Filipino ladies will be invited to the J&P meeting on 22 November to discuss the project and especially the fund-raising activity scheduled for 24 February.  NB would have the project framework ready for the next meeting.  IS observed that it was important to ensure that the whole parish is involved and it does not appear to be something specially organised because we have a Filipino presence in the parish.  He also made the point that Catholics in general are not very aware of the history of Catholic social teaching in our country and its importance as far as following the teaching of Christ is concerned.
