Fr David writes......

As human beings we communicate nonverbally as much or even more than verbally.   We find words in certain circumstances very limiting.  Words really do not express the depth of our feelings.  And so, from very early on in history, women and men had found other ways of expressing themselves.  They found the expression of their needs to celebrate or grief In rituals symbols and art.  Our ancestors I must admit found ritual more natural.  We are less sophisticated in this aspect.  We try to rationalise and express ourselves more in words.  We somehow lost touch with the mystery.  We do not feel comfortable with it.  We feel the need to articulate and try to understand it.  We fail to let it be as such – a MYSTERY.  And also we fail to allow the mystery to inform us instead the other way around.  When the divine touches us we are transformed.  Our feeling out of control in front of the mystery helps us to connect with our deepest fears and demons.  Once connecting with our helplessness, we enter into the mystery of our true self.  Our false self as Thomas Merton the great mystic used to say is constructed by our need to project a certain image to others in the public domain.  And the sad thing about it is that we start believing it ourselves and also living out of it.  The feast of the Holy Trinity reminds us of our need to BE in the presence of the Mystery of God.  Our God will lead us to our True Self.  Imbued by its deep silence, we learn to surrender and receive from God.  Silencing our desire to control and just BE.  This weekend, we are also going to be invited to be part of a ritual.  A ritual in which Bishop Pat, in the name of the Archbishop, will induct me as parish priest of your parish.  During this ritual, I will be promising you all to be a pastoral presence within the community.  I will also be promising that with you, we would help each other on our spiritual journey as individuals but also as a community in becoming the community which God wants us to be – more authentic human beings and disciples of Jesus.  You will also be promising to help me as collaborators in this mission.  May God bless us once more on this journey.  And may the mystery of the Triune God continue to be enfolded for us as we celebrate our ups and downs of life together as a community of faith.  Thank you again for your prayers and welcome.

Plant Sale

The J&P group are holding a plant sale after all Masses on the weekend of 6th & 7th June.  This is in aid of Zambuko House, Zimbabwe.  It will be held in the yard adjacent to Social Centre, with access via hall & car park.  If you have empty containers, gaps in borders or like to grow your own veg, please come and see what is on offer.  One of our parish gardening experts will be available to answer your horticultural questions.  Plant donations for the sale (annuals, perennials, veg., herbs, house plants) can be left at church on Saturday (6th) or bring them before Mass.  Please add a name label.  Small items of garden equipment in good condition also welcome.  Young parishioners (11 years plus) – volunteers to help wrap and carry etc. needed.  If you can help after any of the Masses we would be most grateful, no rota, just collect a label and gloves.  Any queries please contact diana.betts@stjamespettswood.org or roger.wright@stjamespettswood.org
