Friday is the Solemnity of All Saints – a Holy Day of Obligation when all Catholics should be at Mass.  Masses here on Thursday evening at 8pm and on Friday at 9.30am.

Today’s gospel reminds us that the root and foundation of holiness is true humility and this is what characterizes a true saint. All of us who are baptized are called to holiness of life; we must allow God’s grace to shine in and through us so that we ‘light up the sky.’

All Saints usually occurs in term time. I do hope that the church will be full for both the Masses  -and especially with families and children on Friday morning.

As a net’

a poem about the communion  (=community) of saints.

By Jean Murdoch.

O Lord,

Help us to realize that we are all part of each other,

Part of the whole world,

Intertwined as a net.

Broaden our thinking,

Stretch our imagination;

Make us aware

That, in both giving and taking,

We are part of the whole.

In our hands is the ability to destroy or to build up.

Help us to make our choices wisely.  Amen.

Vigil Mass of All Saints at 8pm.

NEXT SUNDAY we shall have a second collection for the Diocesan Seminary Fund (St. John’s, Wonersh, Nr Guildford)  where I and many of our diocesan priests were trained.

Eco tip of the week

Household cleaning – the LiveSimply way

If you have a bloodstain on clothes, remove and soak in salt water straight away. Then wring out and wash in the normal way.

This coming week (for some schools two weeks) is half-term.  And many of our parish groups are taking a well-earned break.  A time to take stock, to reflect on our lives and our faith, perhaps.  To remember our dead, to celebrate our saints (who may of course be the same people) and to strengthen our resolve to follow our Lord within the fellowship of his holy, catholic church.

Every blessing, Fr Bryan.
