Fr David writes......

Hello!  I come to you at St James the Great, Petts Wood very much aware that as a community you have gone through a lot of changes in a very short time.  Transitions are never easy.  They demand of us a lot of emotional energy.  Letting go of the familiar is difficult.  We need time to grieve.  We need time to come in touch with the loss.  Transition demands also a process.  So It would be very imprudent of me to think that I can come to your community and expect that life would resume as if nothing actually had happened..  On the other hand, I must remember that I am in transition myself.  Coming to a new place, a new community is like entering a culture.  As a community you have a history and a story which makes you unique as a parish community.  It demands a lot of sensitivity and listening on my part.  In this way, transition demands a lot of patience on both parts.  So I ask you please to have patience with me.  I come with a lot of enthusiasm to get to know you and to minister with you in order to continue to build up the community.  I also need lots of patience first and foremost towards myself in order to allow the process to enfold and not push it.  So I ask you please to keep me in your prayers as I start this new ministry.  Pray that God’s spirit would provide me with the gift of wisdom and pastoral sensitivity so that together with you, I can continue to explore and celebrate God’s presence in our midst and also to share this with others whom we encounter.  So I am looking forward to get to know you and your families.  Thank you for welcoming me in your midst and for praying for me. God bless.

Second Collection

Gift Aid

Please would those in the Gift Aid Scheme collect their new boxes of envelopes if you haven’t already done so.  If you no longer require the envelopes please let Geoff Ford know by emailing gift.aid@stjamespettswood.org so that they can be reallocated for the current year.

Also please speak to Geoff if you cannot find your box of envelopes.

The tax-free personal allowance has been increased as from the current tax year to £10,600 (for those born 1938 and after).  Speak to Geoff (in confidence) if you suspect this will mean that you will no longer pay tax or not enough tax to cover the recovery on your gift aid contributions.  The parish are able to claim an additional 25% of your gift aid donations; so, for example, if your total donations during the year are £200 the parish is able to claim £50 from the tax man (tax you have already paid).  Don’t forget that you must pay enough tax to cover the recovery on all your gift aid donations (to the parish, to CAFOD, to National Trust etc, etc).
