Fr David writes...
As human beings we love to be in control on things. We desperately feel and believe that if we are out of control then we would feel vulnerable and we hate feeling insecure. So we spend a lot of our time and energy trying to construct our lives in a way that we will feel secure - financially, emotionally physically and also spiritually. This definitely gives us a base on which we can live our lives in a healthy way. On the other hand though, we can delude ourselves thinking that we are on top of things. We do not have all the answers. That’s the reality. This manifests itself mainly in times of crisis. When something is not going according to plan we feel anxious. A crisis in our relationships, a death in the family, an illness – these can become catalyst to wake us up from our “fairy tale” life and reminds us that notwithstanding our efforts to feel secure, in reality we are not gods. We are not really in control. We don’t have it all. Spiritually also sometimes we put God in our small box. We can live our faith in a bubble without maybe ever stopping and reflecting and asking. We start believing in a God who suits our needs and to help feel secure and again feel we are in control. This again collapses when we find ourselves in a crisis. When our prayers are not answered for example. At the feast of Pentecost, the church reminds us that The spirit of God is larger than our construct of God and the world. The spirit of God demolishes sometimes our assumptions and perceptions of God and spirituality. The spirit of God both disturbs us to move out of our comfort zones and grow up in our faith and also challenges us to wake up to reality. The Spirit of God leads us to complete truth. In the meantime we need to be humble enough to allow God to be God and to fall on our knees in front of the mystery and allow the Truth of the mystery we call life to evolve.

One of our parish gardening experts will be available to answer your horticultural questions. Thank You from CAFOD
The St James' contribution of nearly £2,000 to Lent Fast Day helped CAFOD raise £4.5 million for communities living in poverty. Thanks to matched funding from the government, this will be doubled to £9 million! This is an amazing amount that will support those most in need around the world. CAFOD would like to thank St James' for its contribution to this total.
(not to be confused with the Nepal appeal - another great effort)
Vocations
The Archdiocese of Southwark has produced a pamphlet on the subject of Vocations. Copies are available on the table at the back of the Church.

LiveSimply
We're planning a short tidy up session on the LiveSimply Garden on Saturday 30 May between 10.00am and 12.00. It will be mainly light weeding. It will be great if you would like to help and participate and it will also give you an opportunity to see how your parish garden is developing.
Music Ministry
We need singers and instrumentalists to help us lead the music ministry. It doesn’t matter how ‘good’ you are, you just need to love music. This is a really important way to serve the community, and it’s great fun! We welcome everyone, even if you can’t be there every week. We rehearse every Thursday at 6.30 in the church, and all training will be provided! You are welcome to come and speak with us after any Mass, or just come along and join in on Sundays and Thursdays.
A Three Piece Suite is available if anyone needs it. Please contact parish office.
