It was with great sadness that we heard of the death of Joshua Canning (12 yrs) last Tuesday.  Josh had a rare condition and everything possible was done to save him.  He was a lovely boy.  Our hearts go out to Claire and Jon, and to his brother Joseph, who have virtually lived in Great Ormond Street for the past 15 months.

We remember Josh and his family in our prayers and Masses for him and his family will be offered here in the days and weeks to come.  Mrs Bosher spoke beautifully about this at Mass last Wednesday – God gathering in his chosen, to be with him in the glory of his kingdom.  May Josh rest in peace – and rise in glory.

Two sheets for you to take today- confirmation registration and parish calendar (from today into 2012, outlining main events.)

This Tuesday – Journey in Faith.  8pm in Social Centre.  Any non-Catholic, 18yrs plus, warmly welcomed.

Next Sunday – Taizé worship at 7pm.  A wonderful way to end Sunday.  Followed by refreshments at back of church.  All warmly welcome.

ALL SAINTS.  A Holy Day of Obligation i.e. it has the status of a Sunday and we should all be at Mass.  I do hope the church will be absolutely full on Monday 31st October at 8pm and on Nov 1st at 9.30am.  Let’s celebrate our call to holiness this year!

Bereavement Support.  We are hoping to start a group in the parish – not counselling but befriending and general skills.  If you feel this might be your ‘thing’, initial meeting in the meeting room on Weds 9th Nov at 8pm.

If anyone would like to join the church Fundraising Committee our next meeting will be on Monday 28th Nov at 8pm in the church meeting room. You and your ideas would be very welcome!

Orpington Rock Choir will be performing here on 19th November at 7.30pm in support of our Raise the Roof appeal.   Tickets Ł10 adults (children free) to include a glass of wine in the Social Centre following the performance (cash bar available.)  Tickets will be on sale after all Sunday masses (inc Sat eve) from Saturday 29th October or from events@stjamespettswood.org.

Parish Registration.  Please make sure you are correctly registered with the parish!  It is important that we have up to date phone and email details.  Thank you.

Friday Abstinence.  Avoiding eating meat each Friday – just a small but effective penance that we can practice without too much difficulty, which our Bishops have asked us to observe.

Readers and Eucharistic Ministers.  Please sign list in porch.

Marriage convalidation.  Only 1 couple so far has contacted me…..

Publications for November on table by main door.  Do keep abreast of what is going on in the Catholic Church nationally and internationally – and please take the papers.

Please use the New English Translation of Mass.  Some people are still making the wrong responses!

I wish our children and young people a happy and constructive half term.  It would be really good to see you at Daily Mass some time during the week! (9.30am)

Every blessing, Fr Bryan
