Today is “World Communications Day” and we have a second collection at all Masses to support the Catholic Communications Network (CCN).  Pope Benedict encourages the Church (that is, all of us) to use the new technologies creatively and effectively to discover the face of Christ.

We are richly blessed in this parish with people who are highly competent in digital technology, and in particular our parish administrators and web master.  Many of you have said how much you appreciate our website and some people have actually discovered our community through surfing the net!  We thank God for all the new and wonderful means of communication and pray that we may use them responsibly

Perspective

Ascension means a

God-like view of things,

Rising above our usual

Limitations.

Rise, then, and know

The glory of a life

Set free from fear.

Poems by Ann Lewin

Wait for the Spirit

Wait.....

Without expectation

Which might focus

Attention too narrowly,

So that we miss the coming.

Wait with expectancy,

Alert,

Hearts, minds, hands, ears

Open to receive the gift.

Welcome to Mass – and a special welcome to newcomers to our community. If you have been to St James since about the beginning of 2009, please take a newcomers form from the porch as our welcoming team would like to invite you to a Newcomers Evening on June 19th.

This afternoon and this evening Petts Wood Festival Chorus will  be performing all your choral favourites plus the haunting strains of the romantic cello –first class music by nationally acclaimed artistes here in Petts Wood!

The Choir has members from all our churches and has one clear aim: “Churches Working Together Through Music to Serve the Local Community”.

I do hope you will support one of the performances (3pm at Christ Church, 7.30pm at St James); and also Demelza House, the charity the choir is supporting this year.

Mass times –PAT and MaP have given much thought to our weekend Mass times and it may be that we need to change them. Please take the leaflet about this and read it carefully, and please bring it to Mass next weekend.  There are several issues which are explained on the leaflet. Thank you.

Care of the Sick please let me know of anyone in the parish who is ill – thank you. Please remember Olive Cosgrave and Elena Lams in your prayers.

Next Sunday we celebrate the feast of Pentecost when the disciples were “clothed with the power from on high” – the Holy Spirit.  You are invited to come to Mass dressed in the colours of fire: red (orange, yellow) or white!
