Today our confirmation group have their special Activities Day (10am-4pm) and will attend the 11am Mass.  The day is being led by Hamish McQueen, who is the Youth Officer of the Catholic Diocese of East Anglia.  Please pray 23 young people, who will be confirmed by Bishop Pat on May 18th.  They will make their confirmation retreat at our diocesan youth centre in Whitstable, from May 2nd-4th.  And next Saturday they will attend the 6pm Mass in Westminster Cathedral and experience worship in that wonderful setting.

Looking Through the Cross  -our Lent course- got off to an excellent start last Monday with almost 70 people over the two (identical) sessions.

This week (Monday 1.30pm or 8pm,-Methodist Church ), Rev. Robert Lane, Vicar of St Francis’, Petts Wood, will lead us on ‘The Cross and Power’ . The basic theme will be that ‘God’s ways are not our ways’ – God’s version of true ‘power’ is revealed not in human strength but in human weakness and vulnerability, which Christ displays in his death on the cross.  We have to wrestle with that paradox.

Do come along to one of the sessions - each week will have a different style of presentation from different ministers .It would be nice to see some young Mums (and Dads !) at the 1.30pm session (ends by 3pm- but not suitable for children.)

Petts Wood Festival Chorus Concert – next Sunday (23rd) here in St. James’ at 7.30pm. Please support the choir (which includes many members of our congregation) as, in turn, it seeks to support the charity ‘Mind.’ (mental health).

This is the choir’s seventh year, and they have been working very hard since the start of the year.  Since 2008 many thousands of pounds have been raised for local charities.  In addition to Schubert’s lovely Mass in G, there will be music for Lent and Passiontide- just right for this time of the year. Tickets from the repository: £5 or on the door.

Quiet Day –  Saturday 29th March.- here at St. James’.

This is a good opportunity during Lent to set aside a little time for prayer and reflection. It will be a peaceful Day, running from 9am through to 3.30.pm. Try to make time for the whole day if possible. Alternatively, come to part of it if you can.

There will be some talks on prayer from Iona Rainer, and time and opportunity for person al reflection. All are welcome to join the shared lunch at 12.30.pm

Flyers in the porch for more detail. Please put the date in your diary.

Passover Supper Celebration – here on Wed. Week (April 2nd) at 7.30pm in the Social Centre. An opportunity to be taken through the ritual ceremonies of the Jewish Passover meal. We will be guided as we take part in a supper of symbolic food (not a main meal). We expect to finish at 9pm approx. No charge- but a collection will be taken to cover expenses.

All are welcome, including families, but places are limited, so please reserve your place(s) on the sign-up sheet in the church lobby.  Please pick up more information from the lobby.

Many thanks to everyone who was involved in the wonderful Masses (or after) last Sunday. Lots of  involvement from many people and Fairtrade goods raised £ £343.15.  Please order your Real Easter Egg today after Mass, (Eggs available next weekend.) Thanks to all parishioners for their support.

Service of Reconciliation – Sunday April 6th at 3.30pm here in St James- with an opportunity for individual confession – Everyone is encouraged to come this service, and perhaps to make their confession (there is NO obligation to do so).  We all need to review our lives, from time to time, in the light of the gospel.

Transfiguration (today’s gospel)

by Ann Lewin.

A moment of blinding perception-

It would be good to stay there,

But clutch it, and it’s gone.

They come, unheralded,

Those moments of dazzling clarity,

And leave us as suddenly.

As well try catch the kingfisher

Darting through  stillness.

Be thankful for its jewelled beauty,

And keep awake, alert.
