Fr David writes......
When you think about it, life is about choices, choices that we make both in what we say and do. We sow seeds constantly by the words we use and by the actions that we undertake. Some seeds are sown and they produce constructive and life giving fruit. Whilst other seeds can have devastating consequences to whoever is involved. This reminds me of the big controversy about Nature versus Nurture. What is genetic and therefore inherited and what is learnt behaviour. As parents you are involved in a very significant vocation. Sowing seeds in the upbringing of your children will either allow your child to feel loved and appreciated or else on account of different circumstances, the child can grow up feeling wounded and damaged and so remain most of his or her life having to compensate for the losses they had received in their early childhood. As parents you try without any shadow of doubt your best to give your children the best formation in their human, academic and spiritual development. Through your attitudes and your choices, you are imbuing your children without you knowing with a value system. How you are in your relationships as parents and with others will definitely imprint in your child’s psyche. And most probably they will repeat the same pattern in their own lives. We are programmed like that as human beings. If what they see is wholesome and healthy, they will learn from it and ultimately even in their failures and mistakes, they will have resilience because of what they have learnt. On the other hand they will unfortunately not have the necessary internal resources if their experience of stability in their early years had been denied. This is not only attributed to parents. This is the responsibility of each one of us. We need to work on ourselves in order to try and sow good seeds. We do not need to see results. We just need to believe that once we have sown a seed, it has a life of its own. It will take root. There are always consequences to our choices, decisions and actions. We need to believe that once we have done our little bit, God will do the rest. Let us hope that what has been sown by the parents of the First Holy Communicants, their catechists and schools will take root in them and will enable them to celebrate and experience God’s love for them.

Please bring any donations in clearly marked. More details of what items they require are listed on a poster in the porch. Many thanks for your support.
Scouts need your help!
You may have noticed at our parade masses that our numbers have grown and wonderfully they are continuing to do so! Are you over 18 and interested in helping us out? You don't have to be 'Scouty' to be a leader! The Scout association gives full and free training. All we need is someone willing to help who can engage with our young people, help them to grow in confidence and help foster their independence. From September we will be down to 2 Scout leaders meaning that unless someone comes forward we will struggle to provide the fun programme that is attracting the young people of this parish to Scouts. If you feel you may be able to give some time on a Friday night please come and speak to one of us after Mass or email 3pwscouts@gmail.com.
St James' RC Primary School
Currently has two vacancies for Midday Supervisors. One position is for 5 days, and one is for 3 days a week, 12 o'clock to 1.15pm each day. The hourly rate of pay is £8.05. Starting in September 2015. Please contact the school office for further details and an application form: Telephone: 020 8467 8167 or email general.info@st-james.bromley.sch.uk
Weekly Catholic publications
These are for sale on a table by the Baptistery. You will find the Catholic Herald (£2), Catholic Universe (£1.30), Catholic Times (£1.30) and The Tablet (£3) on sale. Please support the Catholic press and hear our side of the ‘story’. Sales at St James’ are not good and we will have to terminate our order if parishioners don’t buy the papers. Once a month you will also find The Pilgrim which is produced by the diocese for all its parishes. The parish pays for these so you should take a copy free of charge.
Healing Mass
On the 12th July at 3.30pm there will be a Healing Mass followed by afternoon tea and entertainment in the social centre. All are welcome.
