Ash Wednesday was great and we have all made a good start to Lent!

It is also encouraging to see people signing up for the Lent Course on St Matthew’s Gospel.  I do hope many more of you will participate – especially parents with younger children at school- the afternoon session is offered with you in mind.

It will be a great opportunity to meet our new Petts Wood ministers. Fr. Robert Lane (St Francis); Rev. Simon Cragg (Southborough Baptist) Rev. Ann Hogan from Sydney who is overseeing Christ Church URC until the start of June, while the Rev. Pauline Sparkes looks after her church in Sydney.  Rev. Paul Hulme (PW Methodist) will also be presenting one of the sessions.  Sign up today! (List in porch)

Stations of the Cross will be on Fridays during Lent at 7.30pm, and I shall be in the confessional from 7pm if anyone would like to make their confession.

Our Lenten Penitential Service (with priests from our Bromley Deanery) will be at 7pm on Thursday March 31st. We have timed this so that parents and younger children can come.  I do hope the church will be full on that evening (do remember that church teaching is that we should all make our confession at least once a year and Lent is, of course, very appropriate.)

Remember that Mass is celebrated each weekday, Mon- Fri at 9.30am and on Tues. at 7.15pm (but not this coming Tues 15/3.) It would be really good to see more people at daily Mass from time to time during Lent and I do encourage parents who may have just delivered their children to school.

And please come to the Parish Forum next Monday (21st) at 8pm.  In addition to the accounts, new ideas about planning to maintain and improve our buildings will be explained, and there will be a brief resume about the outcome of the hall survey.

Mass attendances last Sunday were 668.

Penance

For self absorption- many hours in the company of three year olds

For carelessness -  a year’s close study of an elder tree

For injustice - giving thanks for the rain and sun that fall on you anyway

For pride - learning to see the sunny side of your coals of fire.
