Jesus’ parable of the Good Samaritan (today’s gospel reading could not be more appropriate. Firstly, we warmly welcome Fr. Michael Emerike Ezenwammadu, who belongs to the Holy Ghost Fathers, and who is currently the Assistant Superior at their Bickley community, and has responsibility for elderly and retired priests.

Fr. Michael was born in Nigeria. He will make the annual Mission Appeal today on behalf of the Holy Ghost Fathers and I  know you will respond generously.

Secondly, a big thank you to all who have brought in pasta and dried food for the Manna Centre (near London Bridge) – see their summer newsletter in the porch.  Your gifts will feed many in the area and are greatly appreciated.

In both these ways, we are responding to the needs of our neighbour. Our “neighbour” is anyone in need, and Jesus teaches us that when we show compassion we “inherit eternal life”, i.e., we live according to God’s will for us, we become more fully human and we grow more and more into the likeness of God – which is, of course, the whole purpose of our existence.

Welcome to Mass today!  Newcomers – please fill in registration form TODAY and place in Mass box (next to toilets in porch) – thank you. Would everyone please make sure that we have up to date information! (Please make sure we have any new addresses, new email, details of new births etc....and do come in to the adjoining hall for coffee and refreshments after Mass.

Notices

All new rotas are available in porch (also please take Pope’s visit material).

Elena Lams RIP  - Elena died peacefully at home last Saturday surrounded by her family. Our sympathy and prayers are with Ted and the family at this time.  Her requiem will be on Tuesday at 11am Mass  (no 9.30am Mass).  I do hope as many of you as possible will be able to attend.

Teams’ Awayday - Last Saturday, 15 of us from the Pastoral and Advisory and Mission and Planning Teams spent the day at Limpsfield Chart, Surrey to pray and reflect together about our common life here at St James.

We felt we needed a Mission Statement for the parish – and you will be invited to submit one (prize for the winner!). More about this on July 25th but get thinking now!

Remember that PAT and MaP are there for YOU (photos in porch) so please feel free to contact any of them about issues that concern you, and with constructive suggestions for our church life together.

Children In Church -  I ask all of you to take a copy of our excellent leaflet (in porch.)  Most of us have had the experience of coping with disruptive/ noisy children in church. I do respectfully ask parents to take children out if they are noisy or in other ways disruptive – thank you

Bi- Annual Servers Newsheet – Feel free to take a copy of this attractively produced sheet, which has photos of our servers with Archbishop Nicholls (Westminster) and Bishop Paul (SW Area Bishop)
