This really will be ‘briefly’ this week!  As with many of you my past week has been, shall we say, busy and apologies if I have not replied or followed you up!

In the gospel today John the Baptist asks us to ‘prepare the way of the Lord’.  We are always preparing for something or other.  But this particular preparation is about putting in place the conditions for God to ‘do his thing’.  It’s all about him, and about his Son Jesus, the Christ, and their Spirit.  We are the ‘stagehands’ – he is the main character.

So on we go, through this second week of Advent:

Today (Sunday):

2nd collection for the maintenance fund. Please use Gift Aid!  The roof works should be completed this side of Christmas - we can then move on early in 2013 with other much needed refurbishment.  Many thanks for the support being given.

Welcome today (11am) to the uniformed groups.

Christmas bargains on sale in the hall after 9.15am and 11am (toys and books mainly).

PWCT Christmas cards and leaflets (in back porch).  Please take a bundle today and deliver asap.  Really good PR!  We have 1,000 to deliver.

Many thanks to our Guide leaders who did all the bundling.

THIS WEEK

Monday:

St James’ School Advent Service (KS2) at 6pm.

Pastoral Advisory Team (PAT) - 7.45pm, presbytery.

Christmas choir practice – 8pm  (NOT 8.30pm).

Tuesday:

Lectio Divina - looking at next Sunday’s gospel (Luke 3:10-18). In church, 8-9pm. All most welcome, even if you have not managed the first two.

Three events especially suitable for children and parents:

Advent Penitential Service Wednesday 19th December at 7.30pm - an opportunity for everyone to make their confession before Christmas (8 priests).  Priority will be given to children and young people so that they can depart after making their confession.  To help you prepare look at pages 21-25 in ‘A Simple Prayer Book’ (excellent value- on sale in repository.)

St James’ Carol Service by candlelight- Sunday 23rd December at 4pm, followed by mince pies and mulled wine.  A lovely way to prepare for Christmas, with our special Christmas choir.

Christmas morning Mass at 9.15amchildren please come dressed as angels or shepherds! They will form a tableau during this Mass.

We need Welcomers for both Masses on Christmas morning (9.15am and 11am).  Please offer your services today – thank you! (List in porch.)

Decorating the church.  Thursday 20th and Friday 21st from 7.30pm.  Could we please have all hands on deck.

Many thanks to all church cleaners - great work!

Next Saturday (15th December, 10 - 11 am) it is parents of year 7 children but could we please have as many ‘extras’ as well to give the church a ‘deep clean’ before Christmas?

Many hands...........

There is varied literature on the table in the back corridor.  Please take it even if you have no change - it’s better that it is read.....

Also CTS leaflets in porch (20p).  All monies please in CTS slot in main porch.

We extend our profound sympathy and offer our prayers for Sarah and John Fulton (43, Crest View Drive) on the death of their stillborn daughter Florence Elizabeth at 34 wks.

Our prayers also for little Austin.  Florence’s funeral will be here on Friday 21st December at 9am (NB time) and I know many will wish to attend.

The December ‘Pilgrim’ (diocesan newspaper) is out today (take your copy).  However there are several editorial errors in the article submitted by Roger Wright about our LiveSimply membership and we are hoping for a correction (and perhaps apology) in the January edition.

That’s it for this week! Every blessing to you all, and thanking you in advance for all the extra stuff before Christmas.........!

Fr Bryan.
