‘I have decided to proclaim for the whole Church on 7 September next, the vigil of the birth of Mary, Queen of Peace, a day of fasting and prayer for peace in Syria, the Middle East, and throughout the world.’ (Pope Francis, Angelus message, 1 September).

Accordingly, Archbishop Peter has asked us to offer special Masses this weekend for the Preservation of Peace and Justice. These will be at 6pm Sat. and 11am Sunday, so the prayers and readings will not be those of today. The 9.15 am Mass will be the 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time (C).

To conclude the bidding prayers at all Masses we shall pray together:-

O God of peace, who are peace itself and whom a spirit if discord cannot grasp,

nor a virulent mind receive, grant that those who are one in heart may persevere in what is good, and that those in conflict may forget evil and so be healed.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. AMEN.

The hall toilets are approaching completion, hopefully in the next fortnight.  Many thanks to parishioners who have helped clean/clear out the hall during August.  It looks so much better.  We now want to move on to complete re-decoration.

A perennial problem is storage of equipment.  Would ALL hall users/groups please put everything away after a session, in their designated area – and please – only store what you really need!!  Our hall has multi-users and uses and we must all work and co-operate together so that we all get the maximum benefit out of this excellent parish facility.

Many thanks too to parishioners who are taking on new parish responsibilities from this month, and to all who give me personally so much advice and support- it is all greatly appreciated.

August has been a month full of social, political, and sometimes religious change and controversy. I hope you all managed to get to Mass each Sunday (and on the Assumption) if you were on holiday.........

Now we go forward, ‘with Him, in Him and through him....’ (end of the Eucharistic .Prayer).

Fr.Bryan.

‘The Dreams of Children’ by Elizabeth Baxter.

God of the displaced,

You weep with those who long for home,

You laugh with those who are united.

Help us to hear your voice

Through tears and laughter:

Teach us your ways of justice

Through the dreams of children.
