My Official Induction

Bishop Patrick Lynch will be here to conduct my induction as your parish priest on Saturday 20th September at the 6pm Mass.  By a nice coincidence it is the day and Mass already scheduled for the celebration of ‘New Parishioners’.

Some members of my own family and a few friends from other parishes will be here too.

So I hope we can make a pleasant celebration of it all- with a ‘bun-fight’ and wine in the hall afterwards. Again many thanks for your welcome.

I do hope that many of you even if you usually attend on Sunday mornings will join us and the Bishop for this Mass and Reception.

Maintenance and General Upkeep Part 2!

I’ve had several offers of help.  Downpipes have been unblocked and gutters have been fixed (some of ‘em!)  And I’m on the trail of one or two others.

So, many thanks!

The Second Collection today is for Zambuko House

Zambuko House is the overseas charity which the parish is supporting this year under the auspices of our Justice and Peace Group.

Zambuko House is a home, rehabilitation and training centre for homeless and vulnerable young people in Harare and is run by Jesuit Missions.

Please give as generously as you can. Thank you.

The CWL’s Gifts for Romanian Children

This year the CWL will again be filling shoeboxes to send to the Romanian orphanage supported by the ‘Biggin Hill Romania Group’.

The CWL will be meeting on Monday 8th September at 1.30pm in the parish hall to fill and wrap boxes.  Anyone who would like to help would be most welcome to come along.

Donations of gifts for the children would also be very welcome. The focus is particularly on presents for teenage boys; but boxes for other age groups (1 - 18) will also be packed.

Donations could include, e.g., pens, pencils, toothbrushes, toys, sweets, (but not chocolate). Empty shoeboxes, wrapping paper and Sellotape would also be appreciated.

Urgent Notice about the next meeting of the Refurbishment Project Board

Would all members of the Project Board including the Finance Committee, and all others, please make a special effort to attend a meeting on Monday 22nd September at 8pm in the presbytery or church vestibule (venue will be confirmed.)

Very important! TC.

An Agenda will be circulated early this week.

The Autumn Festival 4th October 12- 3pm

The Autumn Festival is fast approaching! Please make sure the date is in your diary, i.e., Saturday 4th October.

Please also take a flyer home and complete and fill it in and return it to the box at the back of the church.   Thank you for your support!

Climate Change

In September, world leaders will meet for an historic climate change summit in New York.

You are encourage to join CAFOD and other organisations in London on 21st September for a march and rally showing that we need urgent action to reduce the effects of man-made climate change.

For more details go to: www.theclimatecoalition.org/ClimateMarch.

CAFOD is this year’s chair of the Climate Coalition, a group of more than 100 organisations.

Racial Justice

Next weekend the Catholic Church in England and Wales will be celebrating Racial Justice Sunday.

It is a day on which all Christians are called to earnestly pray for an end to racism and racial inequality.  Please pray for this intention in your own prayers.

The Catholic Church in England and Wales is contributing to the efforts to overcome racial justice in our nation through the pioneering work of the Bishops Conference for Migration.

This work has seen a unique partnership forged between the Church and the statutory authorities in combating human trafficking, and modern day forms of slavery, as well as supporting some of the most vulnerable and marginalised people.

Second Collection Next Sunday 14th September

There will be a second collection for the Maintenance Fund.

There will also be collection of food for the Manna Centre.  If you can, please bring e.g., tinned food, dried pasta, sauces, squash, rice puddings, sugar and similar items.

Thank you.

Pondering the Word

These sessions offer a time of quiet reflection and provide an opportunity to immerse yourself in the Gospel for the following Sunday.

Meetings will begin again on Monday 8th September, and will run during term time, from 11am-12noon here in Church

All are welcome and no-one is obliged to say anything!  Come and give it a try!

Sheila Simon RIP

Frank and family would like to thank everyone for their love, cards, Masses, help and support at this sad time; and they ask God’s blessing on you all.

Tomorrow (Monday 8th September) is the birthday of Our Lady, so here is a short prayer you may like to say.

‘Lord God, today I give praise and thanks to you for the birth of Mary of Nazareth, this true daughter of Zion, Mother of us all, whose “Yes” to God was a “Yes” to God’s plan of salvation and redemption. Today we declare with heartfelt praise, “Hail Mary, full of grace.”
