How is your Lent going?

I hope you are finding the environment sheets helpful (today’s is on the use of energy.) It ties in with today’s first reading – the story of Moses’ encounter with God at the Burning Bush.  Moses realizes he is in the divine presence (“numinous”) and God tells him to take off his shoes because he is on holy ground.

Today, more than ever, we are coming to see the whole of creation as “holy ground” and this is why, as Catholics, we ought to be concerned about the right use of God’s world.  In fact, in doing so, we are loving God and are carrying out God’s command to us humans to steward the world, and to tend it according to his plan. Next week we shall think about reducing waste and pollution.

In his great letter to the Romans, Chapter 8, St Paul tell us that the whole created universe is waiting with eager expectation for its redemption.  We can play our small part in making this happen – do take a sheet as you leave Mass today.

Our community here at St James is growing fast! A very warm welcome to newcomers and we hope you will soon feel at home in our parish.  Please remember to register and take a copy of our parish handbook (from porch).  Also do come in to the adjoining hall for coffee after Mass (Sundays).
