Our gospel reading today is about communicating the Christian message – what we call the church’s mission. Without Christ the disciples are unable to catch any fish (i.e. make other disciples) but with him, the possibilities are limitless (so many fish that the nets started to break).
Here at St James we try to imitate this pattern. Three aspects of this are
· The Evangelium course which attracts up to 24 people
· Our Catechists training course- some 20 parishioners are about to complete this
· Petts Wood Festival Chorus which starts up again this week
In all these ways we are sharing the faith, building up community and, (with the choir) enriching our ecumenical relationships.
We are all called to extend Christ’s work in appropriate ways, sharing our faith with others and also learning from them. It is a dynamic and life-giving process. Our nets are not quite breaking but I do thank all the “fishermen” in the parish who work so hard to make Christ visible here.
Welcome to Mass today. Please take your copy of Briefly home and keep it for reference – and don’t forget to visit our website www.stjamespettswood.org for up to date parish news!
Thank you your response to the APF speaker last weekend; and thanks too to those who came to the Taize service – the next will be on February 28th at 5pm. |

In tune
Done your practice? Said your prayers?
Echoes from childhood, as though
Practice must be perfect, prayer complete.
Experience tells us neither satisfies
Till techniques spring to life.
Prayer is musicianship, a
Growing alertness to God’s beat,
Drawn to the rhythm of his will,
Watching for cues for
Rest or entry; listening
Aware of others harmony, or
Seeking in discord sound of
Resolution; accepting occasional
Transposition to enable others
To join in; through many modulations
Learning the beauty of minor key
Offsetting major’s splendour.
Then secure, daring to improvise
Above the steady groundbass of God’s love.
A poem by Ann Lewin
Every blessing. Fr. Bryan
