Today we celebrate the great sacramental  mystery at the heart of our Catholic Faith – the real presence of Jesus in the most Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist.

We do not receive the sacraments as common food, but as a real and substantial reality, and this is why we should always approach Holy Communion with great reverence and why we should acknowledge that presence by genuflecting to the tabernacle when we enter a Catholic church.

It is also why we should be very still and silent in church, especially when Mass is being celebrated.

“Therefore, we before Him bending this great sacrament revere. Types and shadows have their ending, for the newer rite is here.  Faith our outward sense befriending makes the inward vision clear.”

........by St. Thomas Aquinas 1227-74

Life Style

Deny yourself, but first

Establish who you are.

He surely did not mean

We must deny our gifts,

Make ourselves nothing.

Premature self-denial

Ends in stunted growth:

What’s needed is not

Self-negation, but, springing from

Self- awareness, generous

Giving, not up, but out.
