Today we welcome Mike Mielniczek who will speak on behalf of CAFOD in the wake of Friday’s Lenten Fast Day -thank you for bringing in your envelopes today.

 

This afternoon - Petts Wood Festival Chorus rehearse Stainer’s ‘Crucifixion.’ (3pm).  This moving music will be performed here on March 25th at 7.30pm (tickets: £5 – in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Fund).  Don’t miss what will be a very special event.

 

Monday:

Craft Group - 1.30pm.  Thanks to this group for the beautiful babies’ blankets which we are hoping to send to Tanzania (You Touch Africa).

 

Confirmation Group (7pm- ‘Christmas Dinner’). Journey in Faith 8.30pm.

 

Tuesday:

Film- Of Gods and Men’ (voted best foreign language film of 2007)- 7.30pm in the coffee lounge, Christ Church, Willett Way. (in French with subtitles- not to be missed!) Come along even if you are a little late). Cistercian monks in Algeria in 1996.

 

Servers practice at 5.30pm.

 

Also:  Social Teaching of the Catholic Church - Michael Walsh, former librarian of Heythrop College - Holy Innocents Orpington, 8pm. Highly recommended. The church was packed last Tuesday.

 

Wednesday: Baptism Preparation (for parents who have been invited).  Meeting room 8.15pm.

 

Thursday:

Choir practice for Holy Week and Easter - 8pm. We need many more singers - music is so important for this holy season.  Surely with an adult membership of 600 people we can get a choir of 20 or so together? Please ring Dominic if you can help (after 6pm on 01689 827100). Tenors and basses urgently needed, but also sopranos and altos....

 

Deanery Pastoral Council - 8pm at St. Joseph’s, Bromley.  Our reps are Zosia Bajorek and Nick Babb - who will be pleased to forward your ideas, suggestions etc. This excellent team helps our parishes to work much more closely together.

 

On BBC4 at 9pm-‘Catholics’ (sounds like us!) - 3/3- about women and the church, based around Westminster Cathedral.

 

Friday: confessions at 6.30pm - Stations of the Cross at 7pm.(ends c.7.30pm). Come along to stations if you have never been before........a most moving devotion.

Confession before Easter-usual times but also 1st confessions (children) on March 12th and 14th, and on Thursday March 15th our Lenten Penitential Service at 7.0.pm with priests from the deanery.  Please put this in your diary

 

Parish Library – now open after all Masses (upstairs off choir gallery.) Do use this valuable resource.

 

Passover Supper here on Wednesday March 21st at 7.30pm (ends c. 9pm).  We welcome Beverley Taylor from Streatham Liberal Synagogue, who will take us through the Jewish Passover Meal – the meal Jesus was celebrating at the Last SupperFree (collection at end) but booking essential (list in porch).  A wonderful inter-faith initiative! (It would be good if we had a good number of ‘first timers’- Beverley has been twice before and we can only accommodate 60 or so.) Flyers in porch.

 

Orpington Foodbank An idea for your Friday penance during Lent- put an item aside for the food bank (please do not bring to church until the Sunday after Easter –April 15th). Please take their list of foods from porch – thank you.

 

School Applications (2013) - parents don’t forget to register every Sunday after Mass.

 

Thank you to the many parishioners who have been engaged in church activities over the past week or so. Your time is precious and you give it willingly.  It would be great if more people could avail themselves of the variety of opportunities we offer.......They are all designed to help us to grow in our faith-in our love for God, and for each other.
