Fr. David writes......

Hello again!  I wish to thank you for your warm welcome to the parish.  It has been an eventful couple of weeks for me juggling between settling down in the presbytery and initiating some ministry within the parish.  I’ve had excellent support mainly from our parish secretaries Suzanne and Paula.  I would like to thank them publicly for their patience with me.  I am enjoying meeting some of you and also meeting some of the different groups within the parish.  It is very evident for me that the parish is a very active parish and very obvious that you have a strong sense of belonging and ownership of the parish.  This is excellent.  As parish priests, I am aware that we are here for a period of time.  As you have experienced we can come and go.  (I am not suggesting that I am going very quickly just to make that clear).  Yet you as parishioners are the ones that truly know your needs.  You are the ones that remain.  Hopefully I will also in time feel a true sense of belonging here amongst you.  I have no doubt that it will happen.  I have also had the opportunity to celebrate my first mass at St James Catholic  School this week for year 4 and met Mrs Bosher and the staff.  I am impressed.  I would like to invite anyone who feels the need to see me personally, to either email me for an appointment or call the parish office.  I am very happy to meet you.  I am also hoping to meet all the diverse groups and organisations in the parish.  Thank you once more for your support and let keep each other in our thoughts and prayers.  Blessings to all.

Second Collection

Will be held next weekend for the Maintenance Fund.

My Dear Friends of St James the Great Church and School.  Safely stowed in my place near Cahore Point in Co Wexford I want to thank you all for ever so many reasons.  The first is for your welcome when I arrived almost (only!) a year ago.  Secondly, I assure you that your acceptance and responsiveness to what I said and did has you imprinted in my mind and heart.  I will not forget you.

And finally, a thousand thanks for your understanding and the lovely 'send-off' of two weekends ago.  I had a nice, easy journey and ferry-crossing (still unpacking).  I hope we'll meet again.

With love and prayers,

Very Sincerely.

Fr Tom xx

CAFOD Appeal

CAFOD has launched a £3 million emergency appeal following the devastating earthquake that hit Nepal on Saturday.

Thousands of people in this already impoverished country have been killed and many thousands more are now in urgent need of food, water, shelter and emergency supplies. The UN estimates that 8 million people (a quarter of the population) are affected.  CAFOD is responding with Caritas Nepal and the Church and we have deployed a team to provide specialist support. We are particularly concerned for communities in remote areas that have not yet been reached and need to be ready to act quickly when access becomes possible.  Support will also be needed for the long term - long after the television cameras have left - to enable communities to rebuild their lives and plan for the future.

Please Pray for these affected and donate to our appeal, either in today’s retiring collection, online at CAFOD.org.uk/Nepal, or by telephone 0500 85 88 85
