Today we commemorate the Lord’s entry into Jerusalem.  It is the start of the most sacred week in our calendar- ‘Holy Week.’ (Please take a poster and display in your window or other prominent place.)  Please note carefully what is happening here in the parish.

Stainer’s ‘Crucifixion’ was sung to an almost packed church last Sunday and was a wonderful and moving event- and a fitting prelude to Holy Week. Thanks to Dominic for his skilful direction of the choir, to the singers (drawn from our Petts Wood churches), to those of you who came and to the CWL for the refreshments.  A cheque for £1,400 has been sent to Marie Curie Cancer Care, on behalf of Petts Wood Churches Together - a magnificent achievement!

Readers and Ministers.

Many thanks to those who have offered. There will be a meeting for all ministers, in the hall on Monday April 16th at 8.30pm, and for all readers on  Monday April 23rd at 8pm – full attendance please (including new people.)

The Knights of St Columba (who organised the St.Patrick's night celebration) would like to thank everyone who made this so successful and enjoyable, including Lakeland Dairy for generous sponsorship.

£446 was raised for the roof fund and a great time was had by all.

GIFT AID.

Very many thanks to all who have gift-aided their 1st and 2nd collection offerings and their donations to the Maintenance/Refurbishment Fund during the 2010/11 tax year.   Boxes of Gift Aid envelopes for the new tax year are now ready for collection in the porch.    If you cannot find your box please speak to Geoff Ford (the Gift Aid Administrator) – email him at gift.aid@stjamespettswood.org.

Please be aware that parishioners who have gift aided their donations must pay enough tax to cover the tax reclaim (currently 25% of donations) on all their charitable giving, not just their offerings at St James.   Anybody who is concerned that the tax they pay is not at last equal to their gift aided donations should contact Geoff as soon as possible.

Remember, you must have paid at least £25 in tax for every £100 you give in Gift Aided donations to all charities.

Please also speak to Geoff Ford if:

a) You wish to know the total recorded amount of your offerings during the year (e.g. for completing a Tax Return)

b) You move or marry and change your name.  It is important that our record of your name and address is recognisable to the tax man

c) You wish to transfer your gift aid into your spouse’s name (perhaps because you have stopped working and no longer pay tax)

d) You would like to Gift Aid your contributions to St James but have not yet completed a declaration form.

Our friends from St. Petersburg – the vocal group ‘Lyra’ will be performing here again on Saturday April 21st at 7.30pm. This will be their third visit. They are very talented professional singers and perform a wide variety of music. Retiring collection. I am sure many of you are looking forward to this event.

Every blessing to you for Holy Week, Fr Bryan.
