LiveSimply prayer – say together

Apology from Victoria

Progress since last meeting

Before sending in the application it was important to make sure we had the Substantial actions for each of the three principles agreed:

living Simply –              worship/wildlife garden

living Sustainably –     reduce carbon footprint

living in Solidarity –     CAFOD Connect2 scheme

Garden: I spoke to Mel Deasy who was very keen, emailed Joe Falzon also positive, Anne Jackson positive about worship considerations.

Carbon: Spoke to Austin Barradell and Chris Hairs about changing supplier.  Austin said no-brainer but we shouldn’t stop there, Chris examining the figures.

Connect2: J&P members have now got copies of the scheme and will take responsibility for communicating the idea to the parish.

I tweaked the action plan after talking to Mary and adding an idea to involve the housebound.  Registration was approved and certificate received.

I emailed the school at start of term to say we hadn’t forgotten their project – no response so far.

I’ve had 2 meetings with Fr Bryan (a) prior to application (b) this week to talk about Masses for the launch weekend.

Launch planning

Refer to the ideas circulated

Should we ask people to sign up when we launch – critical to engage the whole community.

All of us need to be ‘on duty’ for launch weekend if possible

Plant a tree – not had time to organise

Posters – photocopying, arranging display, perhaps Teresa could produce some alternative hand produced posters, too late to ask school but that would have been good.

Need a LiveSimply display board at AutFest and the banner

Julian to talk to Keith about communications issues

Flyers, Video

Next meeting?

Necessary to review the timetable and agree who is going to drive what.

Some of the promises need to be chased fairly quickly (e.g. for uniformed groups to programme).

Importance of evidence gathering

Actions for me

Julian – who to speak to about setting up for Festival?

LiveSimply prayer

Compassionate and loving God,

you created the world for us all to share,

a world of beauty and plenty.

Create in us a desire to live simply,

so that our lives may reflect your generosity.

Creator God,

You gave us responsibility for the earth,

a world of riches and delight.

Create in us a desire to live sustainably,

so that those who follow after us

may enjoy the fruits of your creation.

God of peace and justice,

You give us the capacity to change,

to bring about a world that mirrors your wisdom.

Create in us a desire to act in solidarity,

so that the pillars of injustice crumble

and those now crushed are set free.

Amen.

Draft of Bidding Prayers

1

When God created the world he was pleased with what he saw, even before he created us.  Let us give thanks for the beautiful world that He has given us - for the seas, for mountains, rivers, fields, and our woods and our environment in Petts Wood.  Let us rejoice in God our creator.

Lord hear us, …

We ask Mary to intercede with her Son, as our parish of St James' embarks on its mission to Live Simply, that this small initiative will bear much fruit.  And so we pray ……

Hail Mary, etc.
