Welcome to Mass today! A special welcome to our many newcomers, and also to any visitors with us today. Do come in for coffee (in the adjacent Social Centre) after the 10am or 11.30am Masses. If you are new to the parish, please fill in a parish registration form (in porch) and hand to Fr. Bryan.

Today is the last Sunday of the Church year called Christ the King.  Jesus gave the idea of kingship a complete ‘makeover’. In the 1st reading we see the Israelites offering the kingship to David- a purely human kingship, based on military power. In the gospel we see Jesus’ kingship. His only throne is the cross, his only crown is made of thorns, and all he has to offer (!) is acceptance and forgiveness to the penitent thief   (a symbol of ourselves.)

This evening at 7.0.pm we have the Taize service- a very special service when we try to create something of the atmosphere of worship at the Taize ecumenical community in Burgundy, France. Further details on the website. Lead singers please meet at 6.15pm in the Social Centre.

St. James School  Christmas Fair – next Saturday (Dec.1st) 12.00-3.00pm.

Please support!

Also next Saturday – Come to Confession ! No, not the latest film but a genuine offer (from Jesus) to forgive you all your sins- (what could be better than that ?)  All that is required is a penitent heart (ie, a bit of honesty) and that you sign up for a five minute slot. So why not pop in to church either before/after/during the St. James Fair and make your confession ? (any time between 10.00am and 5.00pm) (Mums and Dads- set your children a good example!) There is no need to be anxious- a prayer card will be in the confessional so you do not need to remember the format.

You might like to take a copy of the ‘workbook’   – this will help you prepare your confession during the week, and you may (if you wish) bring your notes to confession with you (I personally always do.) But its up to you. Also, if you prefer to make a ‘face to face’ confession, please just say so when you arrive and I will come out and we can sit at the back of the church. May the Lord help us all prepare spiritually for Advent and Christmas.

After consultation with many of you I give notice of some changes to the Christmas routine:-

The 7.0.pm Vigil Mass will be replaced by the Children’s Christmas Eve Celebration at 4.30pm on Dec. 24th.  This will NOT be a Mass and so will not fulfil your obligation. We all appreciate that the children are over-excited on Christmas Eve and this is not really conducive to the worship of the Mass. I know many of you have been used to coming to this early-evening Mass, but the teaching of the Church is that the Midnight Mass should not be anticipated and that it should be the first Mass of Christmas.  We will now restore this Mass to midnight (carols from 11.15pm). The Children’s Christmas Eve Celebration will have all the usual music and festive spirit and the 10.00am Mass on Christmas Day will also be geared to families and children; in addition there will  be the 11.30am Mass.

Practices (singing) for the Children’s Celebration at 4.30pm on Christmas Eve begin next Saturday at 4.45pm in the Social Centre and all young people are most welcome (ends 5.45pm).Please contact Pauline for further details.

Would readers, ministers and servers please indicate their availability for the Christmas Day Masses (please sign lists in porch) – thank you.
