Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament –Monday- (10.00am-12 noon).  All welcome (come and go as you please.)

Welcome to Mass today !  We celebrate the second Sunday of Advent. In the readings, Isaiah foretells the coming of the Messiah- a saviour who will transform the world and bring it God’s peace, because he is filled with the Spirit of God. In the gospel too, John the Baptist prepares the Jewish people of his time for the coming of Christ. His message is meant for us also: change your ways, be open to the Spirit of God.  May we respond in faith, in hope and in love.

Second Collection today for St. George’s  Cathedral (should have been last week- apologies.)

This weekend we welcome into the fellowship of Christ’s Church, through Holy Baptism, Jake Daniel Caple (15 mths), and his parents Claire and Jamie and godparents Daniel, Natalie and Ian. (Sat.,4.30pm).

We also welcome members of the parish to our Great Christmas Lunch!- always a wonderful occasion, followed by entertainment. A huge thank you to Lee,  Ann  and all the other helpers, and not least the Guides themselves.

This afternoon (Sun) at Holy Innocents, Orpington- Service of Reconciliation (4.0.pm)

I do encourage you to go if you have not yet made your confession for Advent/Christmas. Choice of about five priests (NB confessions will be spoken, not written, but the atmosphere and ambience of the service will remain the same.)

Usual confessions heard here for the next TWO Saturdays from 10.00am-12 noon (ie, Dec.15th and 22nd) and 5.30pm-5.50pm.

Christmas Eve Vigil Mass. I am sorry that  many of you have been disappointed by the decision  not to hold this Mass- usually celebrated at 7.0.pm on Christmas Eve. I anticipated many weeks ago that this would cause disappointment and made the decision after much thought and prayer. However, I would ask you to take the sheet from the porch explaining this decision, and that you and your family will continue to take a full part in what is on offer here at Christmas (please also take ‘Advent, Christmas and New Year at St James’ sheet (in porch) and see the rich variety of services etc…..

Readers, Ministers and Servers. PLEASE!!  Sign up TODAY (for duties at the three Christmas Masses) – even if several people have already signed….we will always need more/reserves etc…so please let us know if you are available/willing so that definitive lists can be made. Thank you.

(ALL LISTS  and other in-house information are now displayed in the porch near the respository (church shop)  thus freeing the main porch for publicity, posters, etc………( Please continue to give to Masses for the Holy Souls- the wall-safe is slightly hidden behind the blue screen!)

Journey in Faith This group now numbers 13 and has made an excellent start.

If you are a non-Catholic and would like to explore a little more about the Catholic Faith you are warmly welcome to come along. The final meeting before Christmas is this coming Wednesday (12th) at 8.0.pm (finishing promptly at 9.30pm) at 281A, Crescent Drive (presbytery- left-hand front.) Catholic spouses are equally welcome. If you know of anyone who might like to come, please encourage them !

Tuesday evening Baptismal preparation meeting for parents who have been informed (8.15pm-9.30.pm, 281A, Crescent Drive). What a great blessing for our community as we prepare to welcome yet more children into the fellowship of the Church!

Bach’s  St John Passion (poster in porch)  We are planning to assemble a large chorus (of about 100), drawn mainly from our congregations, and from the Petts Wood churches and the churches of our Catholic Deanery. This will be an ambitious and exciting project and I do ask for maximum support!! The passion is the story of Christ’s suffering and death and is set to Bach’s  sublime music. We aim to perform it here on Sunday March 16th at 7.0.pm (Palm Sunday), and also at Christ Church , Willett Way, the evening before (March 15th). Rehearsals will be on Sunday afternoons – here in St James’3.30pm-5.0.pm starting on January 6th.

We will need every singer we can get !!!! List on board –please sign up from TODAY –you may also sign out a vocal score of the music (please see Fr.Bryan)

If you DO, please try and get a CD of the work and start listening! (We shall be singing in English, most recordings are in German.) And we shall, of course, need plenty of MEN (tenors and basses)(and, of course, ladies!) It will be a great experience- and a spiritual one, too.

All SIF forms should now be with me (applications to St James School).and these will be returned as soon as possible.

Advent material – please look at Advent Extra, also My Day by Day- excellent publications. Also calendars for children, and Catholic Life, plus the usual papers.  We would like them all to go!!  It would also be great to see more people at weekday Mass during Advent-(even if you do usually go)…Advent is a wonderful time……       Every blessing to you.
